Tractor Driving Hours

Anyone know if there are limits imposed on working hours when operating a tractor/farm machinery.

I'm assuming some limits are in place along HGV driver laws, eg, 45 mins rest for every 4.5 hrs driving.

A mate of mine is going to work harvesting this year and looks to be expected to drive 14hr days!

theres probably no rule on it like most agricultural things.

most of that time he won't be on the road anyway.

no rules what so ever, i've been working for an ag contractor for a few weeks its not rare to have been doing 16hrs solid driving. Start at 7:30 fuel tractor, hitch implement, check tractors oil levels, grease implement & tractor. Driving by 8 and still going gone midnight, no break for dinner or tea eat it on the move. Only get out at the end of each field to fold the choppers wheels in then we get going again.

It's always been like that, then it will rain for a week and nothing to do.
Over the year the hours average out reasonable.

Not something everyone wants to do but still a good job in many ways. Like everything you can get used to it.

Don't the modern combines have GPS and auto harvest?? i.e. you can just sit back and go to sleep in the cab the harvester will do the rest for you all under the GPS!!
