 |
|
Hi everyone,
I might be moving to the U.S. next year and want to take my bike over. I've only just bought it a month ago and i'd hate to sell it.
I just want a bit of advice if anyone has done this before...? I also found a website called www.shiply.com where companies actually bid to transport your vehicle to whatever destination you specify with insurance and so on. How safe is this?
Once there what would be the procedure on paperwork etc?
Many thanks! ____________________ DAS 18/06/09 Off The Kerb Motorcycle Training. Proud owner of a Honda CG125 & a Honda Hornet |

Shipping is the cheap part:
You have 3 options:
RoRo with Wilhelmsen, they do either Southhampton or Portsmouth RoRo to Long Beach CA and also Panama.
James Cargo it, Manchester airport you ride there take it apart and they build a box around it and it arrives 2-3 months later in a box delivered to a port of your choice.
FMI it, where they will again build a box round it and stick it in a shipping container which is shared.
All vary from £350-£1000.
There will be charges at the other end too not to mention the paperwork charges.
My XT took the biscuit, it cost me $200 to ship it all in from Korea including a very long time in storage while I was poncing around in China. At Felixstowe I was charged the thick end of £500 for handling and customs fees. 12 hours later the XT600 was stolen which really peeved me off!
Problem is bikes are considered to be dangerous cargo if they have been used even once, which pushes up the price significantly. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
