Go to a smaller motor factors.

I spray painted me Africa Twin for £2.99 a can (I used white primer and white gloss paint)

poundland.
sells grey or white primer, made by tetrosyl.
also does black gloss.
now & again do silver & gold mettalic & clearcoat, though these are made by a different company & are smaller cans (300ml)
local motorfactors for u-pol cans, 4 quid a pop & the clearcoat lasts for ages.
cheers,
GAZ

they also do tins of straight to metal paint,(brushed or satin silver & matt black are the only ones i've used)
very much like hammerite, but without the high price.
used it in the spray gun once & came out v.nice
looks good when brushed on frames as well.
cheers,

I've used the Poundland cans of spray before. Surprisingly decent.
