The title explains the question really - i'd like some opinions - i'm especially interested in things like economy/power/usefulness (i.e. is the RXS any better on A-roads than the CG? Is it probably more or less fun? Does it do better or worse fuel consumption? etc)

I tend to get 80-90mpg out of my CG, if it helps Wink

The background: I own a 2002 CG125 (off-road, being slowly repaired back to roadworthiness) and a 1995 CB500, and am basically wanting to try more bikes out as i've been riding for getting on towards 3 years now, even doing pizza delivery on bikes.

Mechanically, i'm getting better and more confident, and would like to try a 2-stroke, have been thinking NSR125, but they are way out of budget at the moment (seem to be overpriced for what they are) as i've failed to find a proper summer job and so i'm stuck to short pizza delivery hours (F/T student during term times).

However, i moved up from the CG125 in the first place because it was so painfully slow - i know the RXS has similar BHP (on paper), but i'm wondering whether it'll be more responsive/better than the CG, being a 2-stroke and all. Etc.

RXS - tough, reliable, simple, much faster than the CG, but not as good on fuel, shite 6 volt electrics, spares availability increasingly suspect for some parts

CG - plentiful, extremely good mpg, decent handling, brakes and electrics on later models, hard to kill motor but extremely dull to ride

My rxs is alot quicker than my mates cg, and loads more fun. It sounds better too. The yamaha is easy to work on and reliable. Their pretty comfy aswell.

CG - 63mph

RXS - 72mph

That's 'much' faster in small bike terms.

My record on standard gearing is an indicated 83 Cool Mind you, that was down Jubilee Way with a near-hurricane force wind behind me Laughing

I can barely scrape an indicated 65mph now, but the current motor has done just shy of 97,000 miles and is still on all the original major components.

75 is about 10,000 revs, just under. So well in the red and well past max power, at which point just momentum is making you go quicker. The time I did 83 I had the rev counter right round the clock, something I've only managed in top about half a dozen times in 20 years Laughing

I dont think there is much difference in performance but the CG will outlive the stroker by years provided it receives regular oil changes, I once owned the earlier RS100 which was pretty much the same bike as the rxs except you could slip the RS125 head and barrel on them , the 125 rs was good for around 70-75mph only beaten back then by the gt125s, rd125s and Hondas cb125t all which were twin cylinder bikes. the Cg is a very lively bike in 150cc form which has a 6 speed gearbox and is good for 75-80mph.

Shame you can't get them in the UK.

The RS is substantially different in many ways, starting with the lack of reliability and durability Laughing

I have never had a CG get anywhere near me in two decades of riding the RXS Laughing I can still see them off, even with my almost-round-the-clock motor.

I do agree that the rxs was a lively performer and quite reliable, I coverted my old rs to 125cc and really liked it but the old rs models didnt like the rain and could stop without warning. I once owned a 100cc twin cylinder Yamaha called a YL1 and it was a wee rocketship and done a genuine 70 mph and could easily se of the 4 stroke 125cc bikes. The CG is a great bike but the quality can vary depending on were they were made, the Brazilian made CGs i.m.o were rubbish and rotted away very quickly.

As C/cows says the RS100 is a totally different bike to the RXS, with an engine design more in keeping with the DT100. The RXS is a much more modern design.

Also the 125 2T twins are a pile of shit in every respect bar making a nice noise.

I have owned several rd 125 twins and never had a problem with them allow the Honda 4 stroke twin was easily the better bike and a lot faster. The gt 125/185 could be tempermental but I wouldnt call them shit.

My younger brother got one in through the back door but the styling is horrible but the 6 speeds help it along. the fake rev counter only holds warning lights and a fuel meter. He has striped the engine and is currently fitting a high lift cam, bigger valves and a mikuni carb and if available a high compression piston so it should in theory go well.

Ive never seen an x3 as they were never imported to the u.k , but no 125 twin cylinder 2t will have torque but they produce more hp than a single, love them or loath them they sold by the thousands as did the Honda cb125t and you had to really rev it to get anywere. I.m.o the best 4 stroke single available by a clean mile is the rt125 MZ which is better built than the cg and miles quicker.

Thats very strange as i used to race rd200s in the open class back in the late 70s and never had a gearbox problem once, the only major problem that i ever knew about was the combined dynastart unit that could burn the brushes out on occassion but never any gearbox problems and these were bikes that were producing 27-29 bhp back then in racing form.
