its happened again, someone has picked me up, saying i never seem happy, always look down, people are always telling me this! Sad

i seem to get this repuation everywhere, and the more i think about it (and i do, alot) the more i see what they are saying, as much as i dont want to accept it, in basic training we got division t-shirts printed out, my nickname was "mr stress" unanimous (sp) vote by the other guys

the same when i was onboard ship, everyone was always telling me i moan/worry to much, and need to chill out, the rep spread

recently at collingwood, i have a room mate, who having known me all of 2 weeks, proceeded to psychologically rip my life apart telling me the kind of person i am, that i seem to be the kind who likes to keep himself to himself, that im too quiet, and am not happy about anything

im not sure if it's something the navy has done, people have said to me, that ive grown up a lot in the past year and ive certainly been through a lot (and learnt a lot) but is this a good thing!?

im 19 going on 40, and the more people say it, the more i feel like im about 65

and to be honest i cant remember the last time i was able to smile without a care in the world and say "nothing is gonna ruin my day"

Confused Sad

anyone got a chill pill?

I know where you'r coming from.
I get the same from people saying "smile", fucking irritating.
I think that there are times when there's too much confusion on a grand scale to feel comfortable with just being able to chill out because when your mind is at rest the big questions start popping in to your head like what the fuck am I going to do. I think/hope that it is a stage that people go through and on the other side are happier and more conscious of what there about.

Jan

p.s. Maybe, I dunno. Not sure if that made sense to anyone except me.

you need to smoke some weeeeed.

That or hang around some really funny, (maybey immature) people who you're bound to have a laugh with. It's fun fooling around...

Go on a piss-up, a proper piss-us so that you are really drunk. I fail to see how you cant have fun that way. Just chill wherever with a massive grin on your face. Very Happy

Do what you like doing.

How long do you have left in the navy? My mate, who does navy is not too keen on it either...

I don't smile. My boss commented on it once about 3 months ago. I said I don't smile, and nothing at work gives me a reason to sit there grinning like an idiot all day. Nothing more was said.

Goose, for what it's worth mate, I'm exactly the same. It's been like that for as long as I can remember, and you're perfectly described how it's always been for me too. Unfortunatley mate, I've not been able to figure out any way to change it. I hate it just as much though, and If i was 19 going on 14 i'd be happy with that.

I think you will find that most people who pull your life apart like that have more problems themself and live behind a false smile!

The fact that you accept the way you are is a giant leap ahead of the people who sit there with false laughs, pretend friends and an abundance of advice on what you should do to improve yourself.

Sounds to me like you are honest. Smile

I also know how you feel! When you get to my age the problems & worries get bigger! I was a lot worse when I was younger, I took life very seriously, but realised later on that you are only here once and it is best to 'conform' with the norms and smile occasionally and have a bit if a laugh. It does work most of the time.

Sometimes I take myself too seriously, especially if I have things going on that I am not too happy about or too many stressing things!

However I am starting to learn that actually things do not really matter much and not to let them affect me too much!

You probably just are a quite introvert person ... however try to think about something that made you smile in the past, a happy moment and you'll be smiling more ... and it does become addictive!

Don't let what other people say affect you!

Wildgoose, you are what you are, don't let anyone else's opinion change you!

You are just starting out on your life. Find something that works for you that you can use to de-stress (er - like riding a bike? Wink ) and do it. Have you ever been to a bike rally? Personally I find that loading my bike up on a Friday night then a good ride somewhere, followed by a couple of nights chatting to friends old & new does wonders to me. If there are no rallies on I just get on my bike anyway and ride until I feel better, preferably to somewhere where I can see the sea.

A friend of ours from Bikersweb summed it up a couple of days ago when -G- put a thread up asking why we ride.

"it's great , you can get from A to B without excluding yourself from all thats around you.

when you get there you feel like you deserve to be there

its the best anti-depresant in the world."

Kinda sums it up really, but then he is a philosophy student!

You worry too much mate. I've told you that before. Razz

Just do your work (because you have to - not all of us are lucky and enjoy our jobs) but try and have a laugh doing it. Take things less seriously, don't take things to heart (I know hard for you as your not like me), enjoy the time you get with your friends, live your life.

I know all easy to say, harder to do.

You coming to mine the end of this month for a night on the lash? (31st as my nephew is down).

Mate, speaking from experience here, take it or leave it.

I am 34 years old, still very young, hopefully got years ahead of me.

From 18 - 21, seemed to take ages! 21 - 25 things got a lot quicker, I constantly thought I was 21, when people asked my age, "21!" don't know why, denile probably.

Then 25 - today as zipped away, I know it is a bit cliché, but I really so not know where the last 9 years has gone! vvvvvvvvvvvvvVVVVVVVVVV! 34!!!

So, I know the old saying is "life is too short..." It is true!

Make a list of all the things you think you would like to do before Mr Reeper comes to visit and make sure you do them, bungy jumps, visiting the piramids, learning to fly what ever it is, go and do it! Or plan to make sure at some point you do it.

My wife a couple of years ago was rushed to hospital fitting and unable to speak, the doctors thought bleeding in the brain, cancer in the brain, you name it, they listed the all the worst possible scenarios and I realised, we had spent our lives worrying about clearing the mortgage and doing nothing with our lives, fortunately Bev is okay now and we are now focusing on things we want to do, we have years ahead to clear the stinking mortgage, the lenders can wait.

Sorry, going on. Hope this helps put things in perspective. Confused

Goose, you could spend your whole life being unhappy about certain things. The trick is to just accept that certain aspects of life suck and concentrate on the good things. Thumbs Up

I would say that accepting that some things suck is usually a bad thing. Whatever it may be, at least have some long term plan to sort out the crap bits.
That way you have something to look forward to and at least hope your plans come to fruition.

Stuff had been getting me down even more than usual recently, or at least the foucs of what was getting me down had shifted a bit.
Went to Glastonbury expecting it to be a bit generally crappy for me but ended up enjoying it... got on with the people we met there better than I was expecting.
Have focused on that recently, though an interview with an insurance company solictor and the police man investigating the accident may well change that.

That's true G, but there are still some things you just can't change. Confused Sad

But it's definitely a good strategy to try and change those things which you don't like/are getting you down (if you can). Thumbs Up

I smile at work, even when there's no need. I just find that if I smile, either outwardly or to myself, the shit just seems less shitty.
I have a fair bit of shit to worry about, but the more you worry the less you get done.
"Fuck it" is probably my phrase. Nothing will ever get so on top of you that you die or end up living in misery, so no need to stress about the stuff that might never happen. If I did that I'd still be working in a cinema, or have closed the pub ages ago.
You have plenty to deal with Gooseh, but the more you let it get to you the worse it seems. If you put things into perspective they're actually not that bad. I know it's hard to do, but you just need to think less. Ignorance is indeed Bliss Very Happy

Hi
The way I see it is not to dwell on the bad things, whats happened has happened, best way is to forget it and have a laugh, otherwise you drive yourself to suicicide, anyhting tbad that happenes to me i usually forget in the next 5 minutes and im having a laugh again.

Hi Goose, I would imagine these are people that really don't know you that well ? I generally find that it takes me quite a while open up to people and feel comfortable with strangers, and as such they do get that impression of you.

Even in social situations with people I have met a few times, say Dusty and G for example I would still be behaving slightly differently (although not consciously) than you would with very close friends (running round with pants on head etc. and being a tit generally)

Well you can sort that one out straight away mate, it all depends on how far forward you look..... if you look far enough there is always going to be something to piss you off. You should book up for a day doing something you really enjoy (Trackday/parachute jump/bungee jump/minimoto etc ?) then you should be able to focus just on that and smile for a whole day without worrying about anything else !

I agree, i was like this. I wasn't a very confidnet kid at all. I mean i had mates and such like, but i didnt feel happy with myself.

I guess it changes gradually. The older you get the less the "little" things seem to matter. And belive me there a lot of little things that people stress/worry about, when there is not need to be.

Think about it, in our life time we are only here for one eye-blink compared to how long we have been around, how big the universe is, and how long we as a race will stay around. We are here for nothing. Insignificance sometimes springs to mind.

If something annoys you (and it probably will be the small things, maybey medium maybey large) just think does it really matter?

If i've dropped loads fo plates on the floor, does it REALLY MATTER? Sure i might get screwed at, but that is nothing. "Fuck it" (as Demon said). It is never the end of the world, untill it is "the end of the world".

Things could ALWAYS be worse. i feel pretty luckey; i have bike, family, education, food, no fear of living. etc

Once you ponder on these thoughts, and you concentrate on the good/fun/interesting things in life, you will feel better. You will relsise the "problems" are not "problems" they are events.

Unless you've killed somone, or something...That could be a problem Laughing

Come down next Ace Cafe meet with us! You will get to chat to us and (maybey more importantly) random people. This will help you for lots of reasons... Thumbs Up , serously.

It's the same for me, I am 16 and I am fortunately a little more relaxed now that exams were over. But I too, am known as the "stressy kid" when I play football.

At work I am known as Mr Grumpy by all of the staff just because I don't smile, OK, perhaps I should because I work in a shop, but because I feel unhappy must be a reason why I cannot smile. I have A levels to look forward to now and it doesn't get any better than that. I'm just hoping the next 9 months come quickly so I casn finally ride a nice big bike and get off the shitty ass of a ped that is doing my nut in.

I hope things will get better...maybe I should stop listening to depressing songs. Razz

Oh yeah, and perhaps the most important thing, which ive missed out is

"Fuck people who tell you who you ARE, Fuck people who insult you or put you down. They are nothing!" Loosers.

You know who you are and who you want to be.

Trust me, that is one of the most important things ive learn in my short life so far.

I am the same, the thing that brightens my day(s) is my girlfriend, at the moment she is what i live for.
I do not open up to anyone, am not close with family etc but feel that my girlfriend is the target of my emotion/affection.

Without her i think that everything would stay bottled up inside and i would go insane.

Even if not a girlfriend, find someone close and dear and spend time with them doing things you both love.

Just tell them to fuck off.

T'is what I do. I really don't give a shit about people in my office who repeatedly tell me to lighten up/ cheer up/ wake up/ do this/do that etc they can go fuck themselfs.

I'm happy being unhappy (honest Rolling Eyes) so goosey just tell everyone else to fuck off and lock yourself in the garage... won't make you happier but at least the nagging fucks can't nag you anymore Twisted Evil works for me anyway Confused (until I get hungry and need to go to kitchen for food)

And just for good measure.. fuck fuck fuck... ffff fuck fuck FUCK - yep said it enough times now..

About one of the best things you can do is smile (or in my case, grin), even if you don't feel like it. You may find that people smile back at you, and that will make your smile a bit more real.

Keep doing this, and you will be smiling for real.

You may think "good vibes" are a load of shit, but smiling and being happy is kind of contagious. Make a bit of effort, and the world seems a little brighter.

Now you may think this is all a piece of shit, but as someone with clinical depression, it works for me.

So here is one to start you off Laughing

Don't worry about it goose, everyone only says it because your being honest and not smiling like a goon all the time when you have nothing to smile about.
It just reminds people about the show that their putting on.
I don't smile unless someone makes me laugh etc.

"What's the matter with you? Smile!"
"No mother fucker, unless you fall face first into a pile of dog shit and gimme something to smile about then why should I?"

Our facial muscles seem to just be set in a non-smiling position. I can be happy but it doesn't mean I can hold my expression like that forever. And besides smiling gives you wrinkles. Razz
