Picked up this gem today for £300, comes with heated grips, scottoiler and 32k miles - 1994 GPZ500s.

Needs the carbs ripped apart and cleaned but that's it.

It was used as a commuter hack, so the fairings are all battered to hell, needs a new rear right panel and front fairing if i'm being picky, but it's holding and looks okay as it is. The exhaust joint looks sketchy, but it passed the MOT in april so it must be fine... i'll be looking into getting a 2-1 anyway.

It's also taxed and MOTd till april next year... with FSH - looks like it's been looked after most of it's life.

pics pics pics.

Only thing worrying me is that it's got a single front disk, and the rear disk - the 1994 model should have the twin front disk... so i think it's been dropped and the front wheel has been replaced with an older one. The HPI report showed up clear though.

I have very fond memories of my GPZ. Bombproof engine, cheap to own and run, and great for building up experience etc...

Looks like you've got a bargain there !!

I'm gonna strip all the plastics minus the tank off, and plastic weld the cracks on the inside... then i'll go up to my girlfriend's work and buy some primer, paint and lacquer, and get the fairings looking good.

I'll post more pictures as the progress is made.

Hmm, i'll need to find somewhere to do the painting now.

But it'll have the rear drum brake.

This one has a disk.

Hi

Think UK GPZ500s only had twin front disks right at the end of their production run (well after 2000). However it varied between markets, with even 80s models having twin front disks in some places.

All the best

Keith

Mine is a 95 with single disk front and disk rear, as Kickstart says, it was later on before they got the twin disk fronts.

GPZ500s looks much nicer than ER-5. ER-5 I rented didn't have double front disks either but it was ok for me pootling.

Hey Dunk

Looking good. I was wondering if you got it. Needs a belly pan. If you are looking to change the fairing powerbronze do nice twin head lamp ones, full or half faired.

I picked up an old GS550 Katana yesterday. Bloody shit weather today to go out on it. Ill mail you some pics later. Its an old bird from 1981 with high miles but still quite smooth. Only took it up to 90 mph but in general i am quite happy with it.

Later mate
Enjoy yer new bike and try not to crash it eh!

Awesome mate Thumbs Up

Thinking about just mounting the headlight to the forks along with the clocks... would be easy and cheapness.

Awesome, hopefully see you out and about at some point Thumbs Up

That lamp will look shit and you will have quite a lot of wires hanging around. Look into a proper round one with the space in the back for the wires. Think i got one with the spares i got but you would need to mounting brackets. That bike shop up your way should sell them. Also try and get a cheap set of clocks from a naked bandit or something along those lines but again also get the mounting bracket. Might need to drill some holes to make it fit but verry doable.

I might even just repair and spray the fairing, i have the stickers for it anyway Thumbs Up

Girlfriend works at the fort, and she can get me a 25% discount on spraypaint/primer/lacquer and maybe sandpaper, so can get a few cans of each and do some plastic welding, then get the things sprayed black, and the stickers on it.

Could have it looking good by the start of college in september Thumbs Up

Needs a shock too i think, as the one currently on it has been neglected - the way it sits on the bike means it gets all the shit chucked up from the road and they have a tendency to seize up on the pivots apparently...

This one is brown with crap, don't even know what colour the spring was painted.

So I was doing some work on it today, stripped the plastics and started the repairs on them.

Starting to get the horn for the streetfighter thing - Might drop the front fairing as it needs quite a bit of repairs - the bits for the headlight are all snapped so it'll need a lot of glue/plastic welding...

Might just be cheaper buying the ER-5 bracket for the lights and clocks....

Anyway, pics.

The fairing and the Side panel being repaired...

https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0265.jpg?t=1279800700

Loving the look of the bike without the fairing, yeah yeah it's like an ER-5 but it's in a higher state of tune, and i like the riding position...

i DID go mental at it with some mat black BBQ spray, so the downpipes are black Smile

I found it on gumtree, was up for £300 because the guy didn't use it, and it was gathering dust. Thought it'd be an interesting buy as it'd be an easy fix.

Thumbs Up
