I've read and have been told so many different things relating to this subject so I'm wondering what people here know.

Picture a cross section of my rear tyre:

LEFT ................................... RIGHT

1. No wear (about 3/4 inch)
2. Slight wear (about 1/2 inch)
3. Normal road/heavy wear (most part of tyre)
4. Slight wear (just over 1/2 inch)
5. No wear (less than 1/2 inch)

I'm trying (with steady progress) to get my knee down (obviously not on public roads! ) and found the RIGHT side of my tyres have taken more of a battering with leaning the bike as far over as possible.

Which part of this is/will become the chicken strip??

1 and 5 or 2 and 4?

The chicken strip is the unworn area from the edge of the tyre inwards. If you'd consulted the unofficial BCF dictionary you'd know that chicken strips are:

I once got a bike with chicken strips and a squared back tire. I tried to get rid of them and round the tire off round corners but the bike felt unstable and handled shit. Deciding that i would never use the edge of the tire i bought some ex race tires as they were cheap and the middles were untouched. What a fucking difference they made! The bike just wanted to fall into the corners and felt planted and stable. I used far more of the surface of the tire than on the previous set.

Point is that tires tend to wear to how you use them, they then tend to suit that style of riding more. So if your tires are old and worn to a specific style of riding, you might find getting rid of the chicken strips difficult.

Arrrr chicken strips, some cruisers cant get low enough to get rid of them but they are the glossy edge bits of the tyre, easy to get rid of but harder if your leaning off the bike cause it doesnt lean as much, 2nd gear no clutch figure 8's should do it, dont do what I did once, first gear tight fig 8's toes under the gear lever, lifted my toes so as not to scrape my boot, knocked it out of gear, bike leaned right over and down I went haha, its all good fun

I have about 12mm strip on each side of the Badger. If I do Prescott or any other of the great hill climbs I expect to dig both feet into the tarmac on the way up (If I am doing a freak climb like Red Marley I dig my face in ).
I expect to change tyres every 30 miles.

ive just mesured mine 1.8mm chicken strip on the right and none on the left. (i prefer left hand bend cause theres a hedge or curb there, not a posible car if that makes sence) well thts why i think there uneven. every1 has a fav side to lean on. but its only a 125 does tht count?

Strange i feel much more confident going into left hand bends than right for some reason, however my backtyre says otherwise. Ive not had this bike long, but notice on the ZX10R that my left was nearly gone but right was no way near. I live in the highlands, my closest roundabout is 60 miles away.
