As title.

I've got my TDR250 for manic, anti-stress thrashes but I'd like something else for decent journies and lazy rides. Nothing too powerful though. I'd love an R6 or CBR600rr but i think they are too tempting to go caning it everywhere at 100mph+

I've always wanted a race-rep and the zxr400s seems to in my price range but i know i only want one for the look. I can tell that they'll probably get just as uncomfy at the tdr.

What's the opinion on bandits. They dont look that lardy and the 600 IL4 must shift. A quick look on autotrader showed that decent ones are going for around £1500 Exclamation

Any other suggestions?

ps. my 33bhp restriction's up in 11 days so anything i buy is going to seem like a rocket.

Sounds like a naked bike is the way to go, although you may be able to get your hands on a good (faired) SV650 for a tad over two grand.

Pocket Rockets will still hit around 130mph, so they're not that much "safer" than 600s if you're looking at it like that. They'll need more revving, but that will probably just mean that you'll end up learning to thrash it everywhere instead.

Bandits can be had for not much money, but look out for corrosion etc. I'm personally a bigger fan of Hondas, but am not too optimistic about finding a good example in your price range.

Bandits are the belly button of the bike world, it seems that everyone has one.

Up to you if this puts you off or encourages you though.

Plenty of bikes to choose from, have a look through bike trader and see what is in your area for your price range. Arrange test rides with any local dealer who still does them.

Basically, find a bike you like the look of, is comfortable, affordable, and then ask about that specific one to see if there are any people with experience of them.

Hope you find a good bike.

i'd take a look at cbr600's mate, the older ones (i.e around two grand) fm,fp,fr etc arnt in your face power and from what a lot experianced riders tell me a good bigger bike to start on.

And i went from my Nsr125 to a Cbr600 without any probs Thumbs Up

Nothing wrong with bandits at all. And it was'nt belly buttons the one i heard.

400 vtec thingy. good for 115/120 if that matters to ya.
600s (unless u prefer naked) saw 130 (nearly) on mine.
1200s, try hanging off the unfaired version at 150+. but admittedly you may not find one for less than 2k.

All have touing capabilities. don't get 400 if your mechanically sympathetic.

(looks at Iains avatar, run off to fetch bleach and scouring pads for eyes, subtle but yikes!)

A friend of mine had just recently moved from a zzr400 to a zxr400, the difference in performance theres a big jump says he (neither of his bikes were as standard as intended lets put it that way) but on a 300mile ride we went on (ah shaft drive cx comfyness) and compared to his zzr it killed his arms, he looked like he was ready to drop dead there, he would ride to wales, a fair few miles arround and back in the same day and could do the same the day after if he felt like it...

It suppose i depends on what your going to use it for most of the time, bandits are good but not the best bike you can get for the money anymore i'm affraid, allot of people go for a cbr600 now, they do anything, they are cheep enought to run and maintain but like the bandit there are allot of them about, but then i guess bikes are for rideing not just ponceing about on..

i'd personally be looking at sports tourers but i'm a boreing git.

You would get a fairly good example of a GPZ500s for that kind of money. The styling is a bit dated but the engine is strong, the riding position is comfy and the insurance isn't astronomic. There are plenty of spares out there for them and they are as quick as you would realistically want to go without putting your licence at high risk (I used to see 125 flat-out on mine).

I can tell you from experience that they crash well too (by that I mean with minimum damage). I used to do some pretty long distance touring on it , went the length and breadth of the country in all weathers (nose fairing is pretty effective).

There is a thread about them floating about somewhere.
