1. Jorge Lorenzo ESP Fiat Yamaha Team 1m 43.259s
17. Wataru Yoshikawa JPN Fiat Yamaha Team 1m 48.015s

So thats the replacement for the great entertainer Rossi is it? 5 seconds off the pace. Never thought i'd see the day when F1 was more exciting than the bikes. Sad times Sad

Your watching the wrong bikes if you want excitement. World Superbikes is where all the action is at.

Saw this on another site.

spot the difference Laughing

Top be fair he's a test rider that has probably never ridden at the track before. He's 41 and hasn't raced for ages, so to come in mid season and jump straight on a bike set up for somebody else is never really going to be great.
He's probably under strict orders from Yamaha to not crash.
They are obviously just using it as extra testing, I don't think they expected him to replace Rossi in the title charge.

From what I've read I believe that is true. Apparantly the engine limit that Rossi has applies while this guy is riding as well. This is why they didn't go and get someone with something to prove who might hoof it off the track and break an engine.

This guy is prob just doing control laps to meet the contractual obligations for Yamaha/Dorna.

It was on the commentary today that Burgess has said they're giving him a bike that's easy to ride..

He's totally not there to challenge for race wins, he's there to fill the contractual obligation for Yamaha, he's there as Yamaha's main test rider to get more information on the bike in race conditions on tracks they can't test at, and maybe he's there as a thankyou to him from Yamaha for the long service he's given them, in the same way that Luca Badoer was given three races in Massa's Ferrari last year.

He's riding a bike that will have the worst of Rossi's six engines, the one that's done two races, every practice session and been dropped twice already.. and he'll be using that engine until it blows up, with the overriding instruction that If he drops it he bought it.

Yoshikawa is not the reason that MotoGP is a bit dull, it's a bit dull because the grid is tiny, they've cut too much of the testing time that riders had (fridays, mid-season tests, etc) meaning that new riders don't get the chance to really learn new tracks, and they've been too harsh on the number of engines.
