Kawasaki Ninja 250r

I'm currently riding a Yamaha SR 125 on learners plates and looking at doing my test around March next year (along time away I know) and I saw a Kawasaki Ninja 250r in my local dealership and have fallen in love with it!

Does anybody have one and could they upload photos or give some advice about them? Thanks

Do your test (assuming your not doing a restricted one) and you'll probably find that the thousands of other bikes there are out there better than that may sway your decision.

such as a ninja 600.. or a 400.. just restrict it.

Much cheaper/fun when you finish restriction period.

Yea, they are nice, BUT you wont get much faster out of them when you come off 2 year restriction.

IF you are over 21..and are considering buying this, look for a different bike, im getting silly quotes on this bike...i can insure a CB400 super four for around £160 FC.. but my Daytona 600 is £97.50 a year FC...

The 250 is a good choice for a short arse though. My gf would like one, as it's one of the few bikes she can get straight on and get a toe down, and also actually reach the levers without us having to buy a cheap pair to heat up and bend.

Kawasaki 250R is not a bad bike, but so much better to buy something much bigger like i.e. Kawasaki ER-6F and restricting it to 33bhp.

They need to be worked hard to get the best out of them needing to be revved to get anywere quick, they have been around for many years in one form or another so there shouldnt be any mechanical issues with them. I have owned the earlier version of the bike in the ZZR 250 which was hard work but I understand the engine has been slightly detuned for better mid range on the Ninja so should be a lot more tractable. My only complaint about the Ninja is that it is tiny and wont suit taller riders, another option would be the HYOSUNG 250 which is a larger bike with similar performance but the engine is very complex and the styling might not suit everyone.

Sorry but the engines are identical to the earlier zzr, zx, ex and gpx bar having minor differences which help the mid range and I beleive they are now fuel injected, these bikes have been around in one form or another since the early 1980s but the zxr was a 4 cylinder bike which was indeed totally different.

No, they were all four stroke water cooled twins bar the zxr250 which was a four cylinder bike. I own a 1991 zzr 250 and had a 2007 250r Ninja in a few weeks back for a service and the engines are identical although on paper the 250r makes 1-2 bhp less than the zzr. I think the engine dates back to 1983/1984.

Ah. I've just read the wikipedia page, and it turns out that the Ninja 250 was called a ZZR, GPX and ZX in various countries. Same bike, though; totally unrelated to the rest of their named families - anything 400 or larger (with the exception of the GPZ) appears to be a four-cylinder, hence my confusion.

Yes, all the larger models were indeed four cylinder machines although I did come across a 400cc twin Kawasaki that had the GPZ logo one time, Its a shame we dont get some of the rarer models over here, I am currently restoring a 1988 Honda VT250R which we never got here, its a very quick bike for a twin cylinder 250 Fourstroke.

Spares are very hard to find, it took me almost a year to find a timing chain tensioner for the front cylinder but all the plastics are very good and it only cost me 60 pounds. The black chrome exhausts are excellent considering the age of the bike(23K KMS), I think that the Japanese home market bikes get a better finish than their export models so I dont mind buying the odd one if they are cheap and running.
