Bike is running like a bag of rusty spanners - URGENT HELP !

I have posted this on the touring forum, but thought I'd post it here too to get a quicker reply.

Currently in Czech Rep (Prague) and the bike is making some weird fucking noises and running like shit.

It is only running well about 90-100 mph in 6th gear.

I dont know if the chain is too loose. Remember I have luggage and a pillion so it was a bit loose than I am used to it being anyway.

Pulling away in first gear is a bit difficult, - should like it is puting a strain on the engine.... should I try and tighten it slightly or will that not be the problem? I dont not want it to snap on me when I am so far away from home and so much travelling still to do!

Firstly your chain is unlikely to snap, check the tension on the chain with your pillion on the bike, you should have about an inch of free movement

Also if your chain is knackered and has a major tight spot on it, it can sound really bad like there is a major engine problem just from the clanging and grind round the sprockets.

it sounds like tight spot on the chain, check the play then move your bike forward a foot and check again, keep doing this till you have checked the whole chain

my chain was seriously loose (with a tight spot) last week, could hear it rustling and pulling away, accelerating from low revs and letting off quickly would all cause the bike to rattle/slap, check chain first.

Does it still "run like shite" if you pull the clutch in. If it does then it's chassis/gearbox, if not then it's engine.

ok cool remember to tighten the chain where the tight spot is at the top of the swing arm so you can get the tension right.

well, what a day i have fucking had. the bike is totally fucked. had to fone breakdown cover who came and took the bike and left us in the middle of fucking nowhere. had to book into a camp site which was like a scene from 1979s soviet union. spent a fortune on fonecalls to the uk all day, eventually got a hotel somewhere in the wilderness of the czech republic within a stones throw from the polish border. been waiting on some feedback since 9am this morning. no idea where the bike is or whats happing with it.

i reallly hope the bike gets lost somewhere in europe, cos i now officially hate the fucking thing.months and months of planning all fucked because of the reliability of that piece of shite. so fucking raging just now.
