Hello all.
I have recently bought a CBR600. 1998. All has been fine (apart from the exhaust which is leaking water condensation from a hole...oh well)
But today when starting her up, I had some difficulty in achieving tick-over, even with choke. Whether that's just coldness/my inability to work the choke or some underlying problem I'm not sure.
But when revving (not insanely hard, but not very carefully either) There's a slight knocking sort of sound? (It's not piston-knocking as it's on present when revving) It only lasts for under a second. But I'm not quite sure what it could be.
My father has a thought that the spark plugs could be on their way out, but he isn't a biker nor mechanic, his knowledge comes from years of owning cars, nothing more.

Any idea's guys? Am I worrying over absolutely nothing?

Edit: Now she's warmed up, it's sort of abated/I think I was just being paranoid, first bike and all that. Embarassed

Possibly the valve clearance needs done Thumbs Up

Although the above, is a slight tapping noise and it happens at tick over as well as through the rev range.

No but it has a hole, is the hole meant to be there?!

About the knocking sound, it seems to have gone away now the bike has warmed up. I think she was just cold and I was being very paranoid. Laughing

thats supposed to happen, it stops your exhaust filling up with water if you only go on a short run.

Right, lately it seems to be pissing out a small lakes worth of water, sure this is normal, it's just the hot weather causing it and I'm still being paranoid? Laughing

Well even when the bikes nicely warmed up (I can't ride it, not licensed to yet) it seems to come out at a fairly rapid rate, but I haven't ridden it so perhaps you're still right.

Sounds like it Thumbs Up

When you're legal ride the bike and see if the noise gets any worse. You're probably just finding faults that aren't there TBH.

Sorry to drag this up yet again, but I replaced the spark plugs today as she just wouldn't start for love nor money, nor bump starting.
Purrs like a kitten now, none of that iffy sounding bollocks I made the thread for. Also starts on the button. Thumbs Up
