homemade draggin' jeans

Got a request from the bf to see if I could make a pair of draggin jeans, so got a pair of his old jeans, took the knee pads out of an old pair of textiles, sewed them in, and hey presto! Looks a bit wonky, but does the job. I wanted to put some kevlar material on the hip area too, but can't seem to find any...

So yeah, a bit cheaper than buying the real thing! Pads can be taken out to wash and even when they're in it doesn't look too bulky. Sorted

The thing that would worry me most is, will the stitching hold up in an off on a normal pair of jeans, ive heard draggin ones dont and there made for it!

My only fear would be road rash, but if your looking for kevlar or are just going slow into town and back, coolios!

Mind you... Didn't Itchy do some epic tour wearing just jeans? Guess it depends on quality or something.

That stitching will probably rip off come crash time! Ordinary thread wouldn't last a millisecond if its sheared... I proved that theory when my zip connecting my HG textiles to my alpinestars jacket ripped along my sewn seam when i lowsided it.

Draggins kevlar is like very rough short pile carpetl in texture and is attached at many more places, most noticeably the rear, thigh and the outer seam of your leg. Again all panels are sewn together using kevlar thread.

Kevlar is so strong that it's not used to connect particular panels together on leathers for fear that the thread will cut through the hide! Fine for kevlar line denim though.

As said the denim is lower grade than that used by draggin, and my main worry would be those jeans are not tight enough to hold the knee pads in the correct position.

However better than standard jeans so good effort.

I have tons of kevlar lol, in the form of gloves & sleeves.

Hmm, Can I have a false sense of security too please?

These aren't anywhere near as good as Draggin' Jeans or Hood Jeans, because the main protection provided by these types of jeans is abrasion. The Armour is almost irrelevant because the jeans require a strong abrasion and tear resistance to keep it in place.

Of course, leathers and real kevlar jeans also provide a false sense of security to some extent, however they do provide some real protection to go with it, which I don't think your homemade ones do really... Unless you land exactly on your knees at almost 0mph.

yeah we knew they dont stand up to the proper ones but they are a work in progress, with some kevlar material and stitching should be a lot better than riding in jeans alone...

I think its a good idea. Normal jeans with pads, is better than normal jeans without pads.

As a few people have mentioned, the proper ones have tougher denim, how much tougher, I'm not sure.

Its worth saying tho, that often knees and elbows do touch down first, so those pads in normal jeans, is a pretty good idea.

Well yeah, they're obviously not going to stand up to a 100mph crash... All I had was a rubbish sewing machine, cotton thread and some old jeans! But as some people have said, its better than nothing

Draggin jeans dont sound much better tbh, stories of holes appearing after kneeling on the ground dont inspire me to pay 150 quid for a pair Looking at them too, there's hardly any of that yellow reinforcement in them.

The Lindstrands jeans look safer from what I've seen
