Bike pisses coolant... the hose keeps slipping off

Had the bike a month now and no problems up until Friday or Saturday night. Went out for a hoon, parked up at Tesco, nipped in and got some cigs and came straight back out. Must of been 5 minutes tops. Then my phone rang and I was talking to my mate and next minute, SPLASHHHHH.

I didn't realise what had happened at first, was looking around to see if some water had come off the roof, then I saw coolant dripping out of the hose that connects to the engine. It literally dumped all over it on the floor in 2 seconds.

I managed to get it back home by riding it in short bursts (was only 3 miles) and letting it cool down for 10 mins at a time.

Bought some coolant from the petrol station and TUG filled it back up and moved the jubilee clip back into position from were it had managed to move about 2cm. I put it down to the insane vibrations from the bike because they just shake violently when you're riding them (it even moves on it's own when it's got the choke on it's vibrating that much).

So, I've put about 100 miles on it since then from riding about. After being out on it today, I got back to my garage and turned it off.

Few hours later, about 9.30pm tonight, went in to go the shop on it. Wheeled it out the garage and started it up, went to go back in to get my lid and saw a trail of fluid on the floor, went back out and the hose had come off again. TUG doubled checked it and tightened it up when he came down on Saturday so not sure why it's come off again.

Do you think this is something more sinister than just vibrating itself off? TUG reckons it could be something to do with the cooling system not working properly and building up pressure and just forcing it off?

better jubilee clip me thinks and make sure its all dry when you put it together, good luck

sounds like stuck thermostat, take it out and test it in boiling water.

I said that (being the mix master mechanical genius that I'am) just thought the clip was fucked, going to get a new clip tomorrow and try it out, if it does it again, I will get the dealer to pick it up as it's under 3 month warranty.

It would because water expands and something has to blow but try the clip first, its cheaper

I'm scared it is something more serious and riding it will cause more damage to it now! If I get a new clip and make sure it's solid, it might blow something else up if it can't get out there.

Are the water pipes rock hard before the clip comes off? Put the pipe back on, let the bike heat up, and just see if the water pipe's are getting bulges and going hard.

It sounds like your water system has far to much pressure in it, could be a number of things, from a thermostat to a head gasket. It could even be something as simple as needing a new radiator cap. I doub't its a head gasket, Im not even sure you would get those symtoms? An MOT centre can check if a head gasket is gone by putting an emissions tester in to the coolant system and checking if there is any exhaust gasses being emitted. I would imagine they would do this for free, although its very unlikely to be the head gasket.

Try a new clip, if the pipes start bulging and go hard, replace the radiator cap, if that doesn't fix it, try the thermostat. I think the radiator cap is the most likely fix!
