Stumbled upon this beauty on eBay:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170508213107

1980 GS250T, reckon it would make a much needed replacement commuter for the GZ. However, I've never seen one of these being sold before, and have no idea what the typical value is (for example if they're sought after) and whether I should just get some common as muck commuter instead.

ANY speculation welcome. Cheers. Thumbs Up

there are quite a few over here (in nz) because of the 250cc learner limit,
pretty simillar to the early gsx 250's
an all round good bike, suspension is pretty crap,
but the engine is pretty nice for their age

So, a GN250 with a twin engine? Could be a nice little package. I'd start my guess at £400, then adjust up or down depending on how it looks and sounds in the flesh.

Same engine as the early 80's GSX250 - I'd stay away!

Honda did the CB250 Super-Dream and the 'Factory custom' version the CM250.
Suzuki did the GSX250, and that as thier 'factory-custom' version.
Hardly inspiring, but worthy commuter fare.
Honda, as theres squizzillions of the dange things would be safer choice, more chance to get bits for them.
But, if its sound, and CHEAP, as in sub £500 cheap, could be a good buy as a hack.

Heh. I'm going to be restoring the big brother of one of these sometime soon: I've had a 1983 GS650GT (the big shaftie) passed* over to me.

*My Dad's bike; he occasionally decides he does want me to restore it, and then decides he doesn't, usually within the space of about a week. What he doesn't know is that I've got a key to the garage, and access to a trailer. Oh well.

Thses bikes were notorious for electrical problem especially the regulator/rectifier and the alternator .

Good, I was thinking of how much I'd part with for it and had the figure of £300-£500 in my head.

Will look out for the Honda's as well in local ads. Thumbs Up

Additionally, I am hoping that it's cosmetically unkempt, so I can justify doing the following to it (I know, bad shopping skills):

Watch out: Regulator is prone to failure, often causes overvolting which sets the TRI (Transistorised ignition) on fire, or boils the battery dry. The alternators also have a tendency to pack up. Base gaskets failed on both my engines, the sprocket oil seal can destroy itself, and the clutch pushrod bearing can wander, leading to it shredding the clutch pushrod oil seal.

Correct, it would be hard to find a GXS250 that didnt have a burnt or melted side panel, for all their valves and camshafts they were no quicker than any other fourstroke twin of the time and a lot less reliable but nowhere near as bad as the Z250 scorpion

As well as the 80's Suzuki electrical faggotry I have a feeling these things are prone to burning valves. Having said that one in good nick might be quite fun as hacks go. Lighter and more powerful than the Pooperdream.

What did the dream weigh? I have a feeling the GSX weighs about 185kg, not sure about the GS.

The dreams/superdreams were 172 kg but never made the 28bhp that Honda claimed they did but they were not any slower than the other fourstroke twins although their acceleration was very slow compared to the Z 250 scorpion, even Hondas own RS 250 single was a faster bike.i.m.o.

Oh yes siree Dry weight of 125kg so add 3ltrs of oil and 13ltrs of fuel. Still a very light and nippy bike.
