Legality of mirrors

one of my bar end mirrors disappeared today Are you allowed to have one mirror legally?

Also I was thinking of just having one mirror (right side) what do you think?

AFAIK it's not illegal to ride with one/no mirrors...
It may become an issue at MOT time though - and at a guess, it may also invite more attention from Mr Plod

You don't need any mirrors on the bike at all. However, when you ride without them you'll realise why they are a good idea.

I WANT mirrors because I use them but I use the right side more so I wanted to know if I could buy just one.

I'm going back to normal ones because bar ends are crap. It fell off while I was riding back from my MOT

It becomes part of the MoT if they are fitted.

So make sure they are good and not wonky.

Broken mirrors, or one missing, take em all off for the MoT.

As others have said not a requirement. But if they are there, then they get checked

Riding the KLX with no mirrors is a ballache.

Not a requirement but worth having for a reason. .

I've always had mirrors on my previous bikes and even took the mirrors off my ninja a few months ago to see what it was like and I didn't like it.

Since having the KTM, I took the mirrors off as soon as I got it home and have been riding for a month without any. You just get used to it and do loads more life savers, if anything, it's improved me doing life savers and checking all the time if something is behind me or in a blind spot.

Yesterday I had some corsa driver right at the side of me, no idea what they were doing, I had done a check, nothing was there and was riding down a road minding my own, I heard an engine close, did a check and it was right next to me. I think they were just being a tosser and trying it on, I under-took a lorry to get away from the car.

I've also been pulled by the police a few times and none have mentioned the fact I have no mirrors.

dont have them on the CRF an tbh i don't want them. more to get broken in a spill. its not hard to do an extra life saver every now an then.

I managed to avoid a nasty spill in London when I noticed in my mirrors that the woman behind had no intention of stopping at the red light I was stopping at. Rolling a few feet over the line I got a nudge rather than getting knocked off.

No "lifesaver" is going to protect you from that.

I just have a right mirror, have had for ages, been pulled many times since by traffic police only ever mentioned once, but even he said its not a requirement.

I only miss the other one when doing group riding.

I've been wondering about the feasibility of using bicycle helmet mirrors :-

Not sure how they'd handle speed, but it'd be better than seeing just your elbows.

As an aside, if you travel to Italy I think a left hand mirror is compulsory.

I haven't had any mirrors on my Vespa for a couple of years and commute on it everyday without any problems, no hassle at MOT's either.
Because your sitting bolt upright you can look round and see a lot more then you'd see in a mirror.
I have noticed that riding a sports bike with no mirrors is a lot harder though as you're leaning forward so unless you've got a really long neck your shoulder is going to be blocking most of your view.
