What do you reckon of 'EA's latest online venture?

https://eu.apb.com/en/media/videos

Im tempted, but won't be buying it straight away, particularly after buying their Battlefield Bad Company 2 crap!! Evil or Very Mad

Basically its essentially san andreas but online, you can be cops or robbers, the customisation looks great, really crazy ideas, but the shooting looks rather crap and inaccurate?

Anyone got it/played it at all?

I was tempted when it was going to be released on the Xbox 360 and free to play online. Now it's PC only and you have to pay to play it so I'm not interested at all anymore.

Plus, I've heard it's terrible. Glitchy, plays badly, repetitive etc.

Shame as the customization and the idea is quite good.

Ah, it appears to be WoW meets GTA - I was going to ask at first "didn't GTA already have 'cop mode' and some form of online play*?" ... that changes things a little. You could be a hardline cop bringing in a variety of career criminals, recognise their usual haunts and styles, etc. Have that whole escalating battle thing going on where the two of you get consistently better at beating each other, rather than the typical type of GTA where you end up laughing at the cops and it gets dull.

Too bad it sounds like a bag of crap, this idea has a lot of potential. Be nice if they could, e.g., bring out different regions for it rather than the same old same old New York/Miami/SF-LA stuff. Be nice to have e.g. some British settings, a couple of european ones (Paris would be interesting), South Africa, and maybe various third world drug holes for hard mode. Not to mention the american midwest for all of your stereotypical Sheriff John Burnell fantasies.

If only something like this had come out quite a while ago, and with an offline play mode (either against AI, or friends splitscreen/on a LAN). Last time I saw something anymuch like it was back in the 16 bit days, a little game also called APB which was something a bit like a prototype top-down GTA, split screen, with one joystick (!) moving the cop and the other the "robber". I can't be having with paying service charges for games when playtime month-to-month could be very variable and I could have as much fun getting together face-to-face with mates using a game we've already paid for in full, and the posted specs for it make my current, otherwise perfectly fine PC look like an unformed mass of sandstone.
