Predators First look.

I've said before that you can't remake a cult/classic but i think this will be a worthy sequel to the original because it's doing everything the same & just tweaking the story which is the only way with this type of film, unlike AVP/AVP:R which went in the other direction & were awful movies.

Both Predators and Xenomorphs were ruined in thoses crap moives they never should of combined the two, plus they were never like the games anyway.

Have heard a rumor of a Aliens remake or proper sequel to the 1986 moive, colonial marines fighting Xenomorphs. Cool

Yup, the thing with these movies is that you've got to keep very close to the originals. I enjoyed Aliens up to number 3 & even that was a bit of a stretch but 2 pulled it off superbly but offcourse the original does it best & i think if they do make another then as you say, they need the marines back again. Very Happy

I think with some these remakes, they must feel the need to do something completely different when in actual fact, most people want to see the same concept which has been tried & been successful.

Exactly, nobody has to bowled over with some ground breaking concept and storyline with each new incarnation of a movie. Look at the most successful TV series around, Stargate SG1 probably being the best example. It is exactly the same stuff every single episode with just a slightly story twist, its good, fun and easy to watch if movies follow the same pattern they tend to work too. Aliens 1, 2 and 3 were all good but Resurrection went too far offcourse for my liking and AvP films should never have been made.

AVP was a comic book originally and I didn't like it at all, though it is very popular with those that are into comics. The films were utter pish.

Alien resurrection didn't do the formula very well either, though was watchable as part of the quadrilogy, just not quite what I was hoping for. Far too French generally, amazing how you can tell a French film from 10 miles away.

That Predators trailer looked cool, although looked to be putting a Jurassic Park spin on things which may or may not work.

Aliens used to be my favourite, and it is a cracking film, awesome special effects and quoteable line for line, but I think Alien is my preferred these days for the slower pace, tension build up and general mystery. The sci-fi tech is exactly as I think it should be, massively advanced and complicated but ancient looking interfaces.

When I want space marines I watch starship troopers. Might even read it one of these days.

Let's just hope that if they do make a new Alien movie it'll use bits from both the first for suspense & the second for the action/characters. I think to get that same feel you'll probably need the original directors or at least someone who thinks along the same lines & not just someone who will just do their own thing..

Always forget about Starship Troopers, what a fantastic film that was & quite a big surprise & the story was very original. Watched (some) of the sequel a few years back but turned it off less then halfway through, that's the type of film that you can only do once i reckon.

Not a bad read as long as you remember when it was written.

From reading the web it's supposed to be okay, which is already better than the previous AVP films. Laughing

Yeah, that's all I could find in my 30 second Google though. Laughing EDIT: Actually they are. If you scroll down you can read reviews from IGN, TotalFilm, DigitalSpy etc.

3/5 on Empire is okay, although I see they gave Inception 5/5 so I'll probably go see that instead. Laughing

I always feel when I’m watching AVP that the director hasn’t fucking seen Predator before and has just literally been sat down with the idea, taken through a brief history of the thing and then just let the CGI guys do most of the work with the beasts. I haven’t actually taken the time to watch requiem and redemption?
What it comes down to is the satisfaction you get during the time spent with Predator on screen. He shouldn’t be the character with the most screen time by any means but when he makes an appearance or several of them do (as seen in the trailer) I don’t want it to be an unexplained, short blood romp where the Predator is just literally a killing machine and everyone else tries in vain to harm the thing. There’s a lot more to it than that.

Arnie and the gang had such a presence on screen that i understand i will not warm as easy to this new set up. But I’m open minded. I want to learn more about the Predators, I don’t want to see a slap dash CGI mash up with a script consisting of 50 one liners and some bint taking the lime light because she’s ‘the new thing’. The first one was a great mix as you didn’t know what the hell was going on, so at first you’re just enjoying watching the action, then there’s the realisation. It was a case of less is more with the Predator in the first film, what you don’t know builds more tension.

Sums it up perfectly Thumbs Up

The original Predator films with Arnie and danny glover were filmed perfectly. Everything about them was spot on, the suspense, the atmosphere, the soundtrack etc. The two AvP films were watchable(preferred requiem, the first one was to predictable imo) but they strayed off course from what Predator and Alien where about. Too much all out action with no thought given to the structure of the film or effect the film had on you.
I hope with Predators they dont fall too closely on to the original, I hope it's something completly different and not predictable.
Im going to see it on saturday cant wait. Will report back.

Heinlein was an author of the highest order. Probably one of the first writers to toy with the idea of a technologically-based form of consciousness transference.*
Did have some bloody weird ideas about people, though: most of them make sense after some serious thought, but there's some dodgy ground in there.

This movie will definitely be predictable, it's already got that cliche cast, the silent mystical dude who doesn't seak much, the feisty female, the scared geek of the group, the tough macho man & the main character (Guessing that's Brody) who will last until the end & finally defeat the beasts as everyone else is dead. Obviously this was the case with the original but we hadn't seen the film before so it was new. This is just a 2010 version with different actors.

As Killa said about wanting to know more about 'Predator' i'd agree with this as they have a gold mine of info in the comics which is quite in-depth. But i can't see that in this movie, i'm looking forward to it as a summer action flick which you'll soon forget, i reckon this is all it'll be.

I honestly don't think you can make another decent Predator movie without going into the history, we've seen how hey kill, the vision, we know they hunt for fun & collect the remains etc. I really liked at the end of Predator 2 when Glover kills one of them & the rest see him as worthy for defeating it, also giving him that pirate gun which would be the perfect set up for a next movie. So in a way it's going back 5 steps.

Please don't read my post below and Phoenix's response to me

I'm sorry.

I saw this movie today(release day).
I don't know well about this series but I enjoyed it. Better than Terminator Salvation.
But when Laurence Fishburne appeared in predator's clothes, I expected how he fight with predators, but what he did were using a portable clay cooking stove and being shot by predator only Laughing

edited sorry...
