Magnetic Tank Bag and Laptop - good idea?

Hi

Can anyone tell me if I will damage my laptop if I use a magnetic tank bag to transport it?
I currently have a laptop rucksack but the straps are fraying and on their way out and I'm finding it uncomfortable to carry a rucksack on my back when I ride.
Was wondering if I should just get a magnetic tank bag and put the laptop in there.
I know they do bagster tank covers and bags but they look ugly as well as being expensive!

Any suggestions will be great.

The vibration would be more of a worry to me as well, but the magnets might not do the best of good to the HD either. Not unknown for them to wreck credit cards.

As to ugly, well maybe uglier than the plain tank but better looking that a tank scratched up from careless use of a magnetic bag.

Magnets can damage laptops, but from my experience it takes a lot more than a fridge magnet kinda magnet to do damage. I guess if you made sure there was a good few inches separating the laptop from the magnet it might help. Like Alexio says wrap it up.

As an aside, could you use a tail pack?

The magnets in a tank-bag are pretty strong, but at the corners on tabs away from the bag, I wouldn't THINK they'd do much harm. As said, field from a CRT monitor is probably stronger.
What does worry me carrying lap-top on bike or in car for that matter is how its orientated.
Screen is the most bulnerable bit; big thin sheet of glass.
Carried flat _ the suspension bumps will allow the forces in play best chance to bow and stress it.
Carried upright | forces are in line with the plain, so less chance of stressing it.
Tank bag flat to ground, means carrying _ wise about
Rucksack means | ways round.
Paniers / Throw-overs would put it | was round, but then depends on how secure they are.
HARD LUGGAGE I think would be the ideal way to go!

My laptop backpack nicely hooked through the tank bag base. This is including it folding under as I carry it up stairs.

I like having the laptop between my arms so I know it hasn't flown off etc.

I wouldn't say it was a massively brilliant idea, if it's got a solid state drive (like the Macbook Air, but most laptops don't tend to have these to my current knowledge) then vibration and magnets wouldn't do as much damage.

Probably better off getting some oxford first time panniers (I picked up a set from argos for about 45 quidish?) and they're my preffered method of carrying luggage over a tank bag and rucksack.

I did a 2000 + mile trip round europe with my netbook in my tank bag and it was fine. (didn't survive my daughter knocking if a chair though )
