Hi all,

Just back from the dealer I bought my NSR from. I asked him would they derestrict the bike for me and how much would it cost. They said Honda and authorised dealers would NOT recommend it getting done as this would led to a high risk of the engine blowing. Has anyone else found this with other dealers and also high likely is it for the engine to blow at warp speed.

Thanks
Screaming skull

Well that happened to mine, but I don't think it had anything to do with it being derestricted... mine had a problem with the oil pump after I derestricted it, however the majority of peoples have been fine, in fact I think there is only me and someone else on the forum (Kris???) that has had a problem with their NSR foxeye model.

The engine was *designed* to run at full power... the restricition is just an afterthought.... Because it's making more than twice the power there will be a bit more wear on the engine but it was designed for this so there shouldn't be a problem.
On some machines (not the nsr probably though) restricting can actually decrease reliability.

I used to have a moped and when I derestricted that I got better fuel economy too. Not sure if you do on the NSR though, coz you actually take the plate out the intake so it lets more fuel in.

Well my bike was fine after derestriction...in fact the dealer who has just inspected my piston says its in excellent condition so it can't be that damaging. (5000 miles after derestriction...11500 in total)
My bike has only had problems regarding Portugese c*nts knocking it over and snapping various parts Evil or Very Mad

LOL 11500 miles... I really don't ride enough... I have a Y plate and it's got 2900 miles on the clock Laughing mind you I've only had it 3 months worth of riding time, then it kinda went boom... Oh and the speedo cable 'fell off' for about 3 weeks when I travelled to Matlock and back... twice.... then it got fixed whilst it's been in my garage Very Happy

The miles have racked up really quickly...course a 50 mile round trip to BoxHill on Sundays helps (oh and the fact Korn and co. live awwwwwwl the way past London in Twickenham Wink ) Oh and I ride all winter as well Mr. Green
Trouble is, 7000 of those miles have been without brakelights, indicators etc Laughing

not derestricted mine yet but me dealer is telling me to so they know how to do it in the future!
would anybody say fuel economy will be better when it is derestricted cos when you thing about it cos it now has more power the engine will need less rev's to hold certain speeds..... just did a 20mile round trip keeping revs around 8k @ 65-75mph and used 1/4 of me tank Exclamation Exclamation Shocked
