Hi,

Can anyone recommend any decent PC games?

I've just built myself a PC for the first time in a few years and want to get back into them.

I used to play things like Max Payne 2 and Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Raven Shield. So would like some games of that ilk.

I am currently playing Half Life 2 as It was on sale on Steam and GTA 4 Liberty City and they're good.

Any other suggestions?

killing floor is good for a bit, really cheap too

Chronicles Of Riddick - Escape From Butcher Bay. Watch/read a review on it, very underrated & highly enjoyable with a great story.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Great atmosphere, once you're in the game it's supurb. Even with all it's bugs.

Dont buy/get Battlefield Modern Combat 2 for pc, its full of bugs, and is just shit.


A few underated yet highly fun games i've just finished playing:

Chris Barkers Jericho (got it from game for 99p Laughing )
Damnation (great game, very fun and decent storyline)
Call of duty 4 (not modernwarfare 2) because you can get dedicated servers meaning when you eventually get bored of shooting people you can do jump servers, zombie game types, or even just alien vs predator modes Wink Mods are awesome.

Prototype Downloaded this, took me a few days to complete and i was hooked.. a really fun game, not much replayability but definately addictive enough that you will sit up all night playing it.


Im thinking of downloading both the Left 4 Dead games but not sure if its worth it, anyone else got them, how good are they?? I have played 'Killing Floor' which was ok but got boring fast.. Laughing

(other than multiplayer freezing, which was due to my gfx overheating)


Have you played Battlefield 2? it just doesen't match up to that game at all.

Accuracy is good but the 2 key problems i found were that no joysticks seemed to work (my logitech extreme 3d pro works fine with BF2) and the inability to go PRONE is just plain gay.

Perhaps they've patched that? Not sure, i stopped playing it after a week of being kicked from servers, stupid glitches, joysticks not working, and being told i would have to modify game files to use my joystick.. Rolling Eyes

Sticking with Cod4 and BF2 until they sort it.

Currently downloading Just Cause and Just Cause 2 which i've heard are good.

Old games i'd recommend would have to be

Half Life
Portal (although making it longer would be awesome)
Farcry (not played 2 yet but Farcry was awesome)

Another vote for Portal. Can't wait for the 2nd one now!

Recently discovered that Street Fighter 4 came out on the PC. Just wish they would release the super edition then I wouldn't need an xbox any more!

BFBC2

Fallout 3 - Get the HD texture and model packs if your PC is up to it.

These 3 alone will be enough to suck a few thousand hours of time out of you if you let them.

No prone helps stop camping fruitcakes with their sniper rifles. Don't need it.

Why the fck would you want to use a joystick anyway? Modifying game files isn't exactly horrible, stop being lazy.

Previously played Left 4 Dead, and recently bought Soldier of Fortune Payback...

Both games seem to be pretty good for some testosterone filled gun play

I also still enjoy playing Doom3, Delta Force Extreme, and Splinter Cell

Its ok, i was playing it last night after waiting an hour for it to update itself (shows how long i haven't played it for).

Joysticks still don't work, but i've worked out the reason why they aren't compatible.. its because they ported the game directly from the XBOX, this is why some buttons of the joysticks come up as 'Rtrigger (Right Trigger)' which of course, on a joystick theres no such thing Wink

Ironically though, apparently 360 controllers for the pc don't work so the configs completely messed up. Confused

I have changed the files, but that sorts out the inverted controls but still throttle/view buttons won't bind..

I've just decided to ignore the fact theres helicopters in the game now, alot of the time the maps have sandstorms so i can't see sod all in a heli anyway, and its much more fun sniping from behind objects.

Played for a fair while yesterday unlocking bits and leveling... they seem to of sorted out a fair few of the bugs but if i could choose again i would of just got it for console.. Wink

Got that Sniper game someone posted earlier, will be playing that soon and see how good that is, as well as Just Cause1/2 Thumbs Up

BF2 is shit and it's old. I don't recommend buying it now. It used to be a decent game at the beginning but then they started patching it and the game was getting worse and worse. I spent over 2000 hours playing it. Now you only have people crying, accusing of cheating.. Good players left that game for good long ago.

Didn't say it wasn't an old game, just said they did all that with that game, yet fell at the first hurdle by porting a console game to the PC.


For the record though, i've just completed Sniper:Ghost Warrior, and whereas potentially it looked epic, graphics were good, on par with Farcry imo, it played practically identically to Farcry, basically i'd list it as just another first person shooter that you'll probably find in a bargain bin... not to say it isn't a good game, just that it isn't anything spectacular.. Neutral

I'd still recommend 'Damnation', I enjoyed playing that and will probably go back to it... playing 'Just Cause' atm and it seems like a cross between San Andreas and Prototype, lots of side missions, your guy can take hails of bullets from choppers, enemies, and drops from a considerable height, yet dies if you get hit by a slow moving car... Laughing

I would prefer Prototype over Just Cause any day of the week. Very Happy

Also my PC is a 3.2GHz Pentium Dual Core, 4Gb DDR2 and a GT240 so should play most games at decent settings?
