Why let facts get in the way of a good piece of sensationalism eh?

Statistics can be used to say anything. I'd be really interested in the sample size of that survey.

to be fair, some bikers do ride like tossers. i'd say maybe 1 in every 5 i have seen this summer, for example, have been wearing trainers and no gloves etc.

They haven't had the balls to print my comment, and there wasn't a single swear word in it!

Confused

How does how they are dressed have any bearing on their riding.

I do all of that except the drinking. However I do it in a manor that I feel that there's no increase in risk.

I do ride in trainers most of the time (Boots and 4 flights of stairs, no thanks) as i am commuting, i do filter, pull in to gaps perhaps a little too small at weird angles, and overtake slower cars. But i never feel unsafe, and never feel like i am being unsafe or causing other road users or pedestrians any danger. I slow down when i see any potential hazard, including those bloody cars parked in driveways that are actually parked over the pavement, looks like a car reversing.

Bikers take a lot more notice of the surroundings than a car driver, as the risks are higher, and you arent in a warm snuggly cage sat down with the radio on too loud.

I seriously think the Car test needs to be far harsher, and the attitude needs to be taken seriously!

You ride around at night with your lights off, jump red lights and ride a bike that you're not licenced for? Laughing

I jump red lights on my way to work at daft o'clock in the morning yes (although I do it in the car too, I think you'll find plenty of people do it in the early hours), and I've ridden unrestricted bikes on a restricted license. Not done the lights off thing yet though, although with the current battery/reg-rec issues it may not be that far off. Got to have enough volts to get home you know. Laughing

Your name should be Sophy22, did you write the article because you talk shit aswell and it's too much of a coincidence.

What difference does not wearing gloves and wearing trainers make to the way you ride. Where can I buy a pair of non-tosser biker boots.

In this nice weather I've been riding in a T-shirt and trainers pretty much every day, what's your point?

There were 472 motorcycle user fatalities in 2009, 4 per cent lower than during 2008. The number reported as seriously injured fell by 4 per cent to 5,350. Total reported motorcycle user casualties fell by 4 per cent to 20,703 in 2008. Motorcycle traffic rose by 2 per cent over the same period. The all motorcycle user casualties figure for 2009 of 20,703 is 4 per cent lower than in 2008. Source

yes, shame they failed to mention the full stats though!

drop in number of fatalities despite a rise of 2% in the number of bikers... hmm, don't see a problem really.

Those stats I believe include those taken from stolen bikes and joyriders as well.
Someone steals a bike and crashes trying to escape= bike statistic.
Some scrote pissed up on an uninsured bike = bike statistic.

It doesn't paint a very good picture for the rest of us.

That you're a tosser.

I thought my point above was fairly obvious.

I think that asking how to pull women on an Internet forum makes someone much more of a tosser than riding in a t-shirt ever will. How did that go by the way?

I have two things to say:
There are 3 kinds of lies, lies, damned lies and statistics
and
yesterdays news is to-days chip wrappings.

The only real problem is that there are people who read this crap and believe it. Some will never realise that you should never believe what you read in the papers, my father in law was like that, read three papers and believe everything he read. He'd have loved this one so maybe a good thing he can't read them any more and have a go at me.

News of the Screws mate, were you actually taking it seriously? They already lost the argument when they captioned the picture "Bike's have 6,000 accidents a day". It's like being offended by a tourette's sufferer.
