Use either Newsgroups (most ISP's have them)
or
BitTorrent.
Steer clear of Kazaa, even though the Lite version is better than the normal version.
Whichever route you go down make sure you have your anti-virus upto date, firewall signatures upto date & an IP blocker such as Peerguardian or ProtoWall. You just don't know who is trying to connect to you! |

Just started using BitTorrent myself. Here's a good FAQ for anyone that doesn't know about it:
https://dessent.net/btfaq/
And for anyone that's running Kazza instead of Kazza Lite switch now and then run Lavasoft's free ad-aware program to get rid of all the spyware muck! ____________________ "It's all about dislocating expectation"

I got the newest version of Kazaa Lite, ironically off www.oldversion.com
I used to have Kazaa Lite resurrection, but I didn't like it.
I have eMule, which isn't really P2P, but it does use eDonkey sometimes. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. I spend £10 a month to download/stream as much music as I like from Napster - its legal and I can get it instantly.
Before that (and for things you can't get on Napster) - Bittorrent
- WinMX
- Kazaa Lite
Never had much luck with soulseek
Of course, I'd never deam of using any pirated material ____________________ If this signature is blue, you're riding too fast |

there's some random russian website that my m8 recommends
www.grammy.ru and apparently, u can find ANY album on it. My m8 downloading most of the metallica stuff from there and NOT NAPSTER.
But in relation to this thread, use WINMX, Kazaa's spyware compromises your own privacy which would inevitably lead to prosicution of handling or obtaining pirated material = some harsh sentance. Anyone of you people remember using MORPHEUS? ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Used to use Napster in the 'old days' but now use Winmx, you can usually get what you want if you are patient. ____________________ Suzuki RF 600 - The two wheeled Testarossa (Deceased)

Yep! I remember Morpheus
I switched to Kazaa lite after Morpheus began to use the Gnutella 2 network, because it was like boiled scrotum.
https://www.simplemp3s.com is a good source for Albums. Just make sure you have a pop-up blocker turned on, and watch for what you install! ____________________ If this signature is blue, you're riding too fast |

Yeah I remember when Morpheus switched over. That was a sad day indeed, cause the new network was diabolical ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

I find that not a lot of people like Soulseek. but I find it really useful because when you do a search, it finds complete albums so saves alot of hassle. I have no problems with it being slow as it tells you the average download speeds for whoever you are connected to, so if you don't like the look of the speeds then you can switch to someone else.
Another big reason for me using it is that I can connect to people I know real easily, which is really handy for transferring files to your mates etc.
I also like how you can ban whoever you like from downloading from you Generally people who aren't sharing. The only drawback is that you can't download the one file from multiple sources But I have found that on Soulseek, people tend not to disconnect very often for whetever reason. ____________________ Past >>>> Honda NSR 125 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K1 >>>> Suzuki GSXR 600 K4 >>>>Kawasaki Z1000 DAF >>>>Suzuki RMZ 250 >>>> Current >>>> KTM Superduke R 1290 >>>> |

I've found soulseek good for finding really obscure music that otherwise is really hard to find. Which in my case is pretty much everything I listen to. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

Agreed Soulseek is tops at the moments for me
Main reason is that you download from one person, rather than building the file from multiple sources (as in Overnet/Edonkey).
So much faster transfer speeds than any other P2P software that I've used.
However it is good to use another (Overnet for me ) in case you can't find something using one program.
