Not normally one to ask these sort of questions but which is the better investment, ride on road including reliability / ability to withstand the UK weather in it's final finish or even fun rating?

neither. If you buy new you are going to lose alot of money whatever bike it is. Buy something that someone has already taken the hit on. Thumbs Up

They are both boring IL4 600s. I think the kwak is supposed to be the most smile inducing out of 2010 600 sports bike class.

GSXR's the better road bike, R6 is the better track bike.

Next.

like damon said a brand new bike is probably a poor investment now days.

you might as well get a recent 2nd hand model and save a few thousand squid.

the triumph and ninja came top of the class in all the mags irc.
the r6 and gsxr are the bottom runners with the honda in the middle'

like ham said the gsxr is more suited for the road, wider power band, supple suspension, power modes, liner delivery etc
the r6 is a lot more track focused, though less focused then the original 06 model

new 600's are around £8999

you could buy a few years old 1000/600 for half that, and have change left over for a holiday Thumbs Up

Neither because the 2010 Japanese 600's are nearly exactly the same as the 2009 bikes. You might as well buy a secondhand 2009 model and miss out on the main depreciation hit.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Out of those 2 bikes, GSXR, no question. It's cheaper to start with but is also better suited to road riding.

Best road orientated, well built and reliable 600 I've ridden (and owned) was probably my R6.

Nice USD/radial caliper spec 05 model would do nicely.

Very peaky engines though, not as much low down and midrange as the GSXR, ZXR or CBR.

I had an 06' R6, was great fun, awesome bike!!

Handles so well, feels so light, just really really easy to turn, a very flickable bike. The 06's really lack low down and mid range, all the power comes in at 10k rpm, but it rev's so high, that it doesn't really matter! Very good fun though, I'd definetly have another one! Although I'd wait until next year, apparently there doing something special with the R6 for 2011.

If I was going to get another 600 my top choice would be another R6, closely followed by the Triumph 675.

I disagree.

The 05 model I had was nearly on par with my RR8 CBR6 in terms of midrange (I'm not talking about the 17k rpm bike here, mine was the model just before).

I'd disagree. Just bought a new bike and found the difference between second hand and new to be negligable. I got not far off what I paid for my bike two years ago new as trade in too. The second hand market currently has relatively over inflated prices.

Dealers appear to be struggling to shift new bikes. The big Japs especially due to the high RRP's caused by the poor exchange rate with the yen I beleive. Dealers will be willing to knock a fair amount of RRP and throw in some extras. I got a hefty discount on a bike which is still a relatively good selling bike as well, this was on a Triumph as well, not a Jap bike. Have seen an '09 ZX6R for just under £6k brand new for instance.

See what deals are to be had as new isnt necessarily worse.

I'd advise not getting a sports 600 personally unless it's just a toy or you particularly want a sports styled bike. More practical bikes which are more fun and just as fast on public raods available.

That would be completely pointless on a 600, theyv'e already said thats not going to happen.

Really, I've not seen any evidence to the contrary.

(And to be fair it's pretty pointless on a thou, it's all marketing.)

The main reason for a cross-plane is for traction, why would they put it on a 600??

Yamaha have already said they will definitely not be putting a cross-plane on any 600cc bikes.

Confused so your new bike cost the same as a older 2nd hand model? Confused

The R6 would have more midrange, it's an older bike! The trend is that with each new model they increase the bore, reduce the stroke, increase the RPM range to gain more top end, and sacrifice midrange and lowend power.

Of those two I'd take GSXR.

But if I was going to buy brand new 600ish bike I would probably pick Triumph Daytona 675 Thumbs Up

It appears to be working well too doesn't it. Getting it's arse kicked in Superstock, WSBK, BSB, Road racing etc.

It's just marketing to my mind. Thumbs Up

some bikes have stayed practically unchanged for a while, so all you get with a new bike, if different paint and minor tweaks, which are not worth the extra £££

correct me if im wrong but

the current cbr is more or less the same as the 07 model minus colours and a small ecu change for unnoticeable midrange improvements

same as the R6 and Gsxr since 08.

beside the number on the plate you dont get much extra for new over 2nd hand from what i can see

I know.

My advice, for road use, taking into account his other requirements, would to go for neither of the bike's Whosthedaddy's stated.

Save a bit of money going for an older model too. Thumbs Up
