Best place for buying a widescreen HD tv

well our other tv's sh!te so we're after a new one.

got around £300 to spend and it needs built in freeview

Argos is a chavvy shit hole.

It's an expensive place to buy from, the staff don't have a clue, you can't browse easily cos only a few things are on display in the shop, etc etc.

Samsung 32" B530 LCD, bought one for my parents at the beginning of the year, quite a good screen for the price I paid.

Better specification than the argos one for the same money.

I found John lewis prices to be similar to Amazon, and you get a 5 year warranty.

If you're only going to spend £350 on a TV then personally speaking I would stay away from LCD and just look on Free-ads for a CRT TV.
The picture quality is going to be pretty ropey in standard definition with lots of motion blur when anything moves quickly on screen.

If you need to have LCD ('cos you need a flat TV), then at that price range they are all going to be much of a muchness, and I would just go for one made by a brand you recognise.

We have this TV, but bought it with my work's discount from our supplier as we can make personal purchases from them: https://cpc.farnell.com/videocon/vu325ldf/tv-lcd-32-1080p-dvb-t-videocon/dp/AV19468. There's a PDF link on that page with the full spec. It costed us about £270 including VAT at the time, so I got a tilting wall bracket for it for another £20 too and it's mounted above the fireplace.

Do a bit of research on the brand Videocon (ironic name, pretty unknown over here, yes...) and you'll find out that they're a massive conglomorate based in India and are extremely respected out there, along the lines of Samsung, LG etc. They own other brands including Electrolux.

As for the set, we've had it since last November and it's been absolutely fantastic. Reliability wise it's on a lot during the day (gets left on for the dog whilst everyone's out) and gets very well used. There have been no faults so far with it after 8 months of pretty constant use.

Look at the spec - it does full, native 1080p at 50/60Hz (not 24p though). I would not bother with a TV of this size if it didn't have that resolution. I couldn't find any other set that would do that resolution at that price. Blu-Ray's look fantastic, as does HDTV via Freesat (1080i). I really can't fault the picture quality for a unit of this price. It also has built-in Freeview which is not HD. We don't use it as we have crap reception here so we have Freesat HD instead.

My only gripe is that it has no audio output to feed a set of speakers, although this is only an issue for analog or Freeview TV from the set, if you can take external audio outputs from other connected devices. To get around this, you can probably take the reverse audio feed off one of the SCARTs. The built-in speakers are okay for what they are but will never match a proper system. As for connections it has 3 HDMIs, 2 SCARTs, VGA, Component, Composite, S-Video and seperate audio inputs for those.

hmm well decided to get the john lewis tv i posted on the page

the 5 year guarantee was what probably swung it

will see what its like when it comes next week,got to beat the fat piece of rubbish we have atm

Big fan of Richer but prob go to JL's for my TV.

Unlikely I'll buy until Christmas...waiting for everyone to run out and buy 3D's so the price of a plasma drops right down.

JL's offer good service, reasonable price, 5 yr warranty and free delivery.
