1 hours labour from £40 + parts.
Better to ask dealer what they think it will cost. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Franchise Dealer? I'd expect about £60-£80ish. It should be less than an hours job for them, but most will bill by the hour or part there-off, and they'll use gen-parts and charge gen-part prices.
A decent independent, would probably charge something like £40-£50.
As others have said, its a pretty simple DIY job. Check the work-shop section. Plenty of folk have asked pretty much the same Q.
Theres a bit about it on my project bike webby, and more still on snowtigeress's 'Pup-Project' show & tell thread.
Dave Silvers is the other Mail-Order emporium for all things Honda.
Two rates of delivery with them; standard, 3-5 working days, and 'express', garanteed next day.
On a pair of fork seals probably not worth going express, they are so small they stick them in an envelope and sent them out by post, you should get them next day anyway.
Fork selas I had of e-bay like-wise. Came in a jiffy-bag, next day.
Seals should be well under a tenner, including postage, even from the more expensive outlets.
Fork-Oil, about £5 for a half litre bottle. You'll probably need less than half of it, though.
You'll need a tyre lever to pull the oldd seals out, about a fiver, maybe an allen key to undo the damper bolt, and a socket or spanner for the fork cap.
Even if you have to buy a took-kit to do the job, you should be able to get all you need for less than a Franchise dealer would charge, including a Haynes Manual (Pretty much always £16 everywhere)
If you do DIY, theres also the dust-seals over the main-seals. Those are the plastic seals you can see on the top of the fork slider. Might as well change them while you are about it,. They are about £7.
And its worth thinking about £7-£10 for a pair of concertina rubber fork gaiters to cover the chrome stansion.
When you strip and rebuild the forks, you ought to clean the chrome stansion up. Often its a litle rusty or pitted, and thats what often makes the fork-seals 'go' as rubbing over that roughness is what wears them out more quickly.
New stansions, are normally cheaper than getting the old ones re-chromed, if they are really bad, and I THINK they are about £50 a leg for the CG.
But provided the ones you have are not REALLY bad, they should clean up with a bit of chrome polish.
Gaiters then have duel advantage. They keep the crud off the chrome so they last longer, and if they are slightly pitted, the MOT man cant SEE it. and if he cant see it, he cant fail it!
Sounds like a 'diddle', and TBH it is! But £7 gaiters are a darn site cheaper than new stansions, and so are replacement seals!
Provided the slider bush and stansion are in tolerence, the operation of the fork isn't impared, only thing is how long teh seals last. So you replace them frequently to be on the safe side, and at a fiver a time, you can afford a fair few seal replacements over new fork stansions! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

This was the first mechanical job that i ever did, it went fine. I'd seriously think about having a go yourself. It will cost less and you'll still have the tools you bought afterwards
Loosen bolts
Jack up bike
Take front axel out
Undo bolts and take fork out, remove brake is needed
Take fork top off, drain out oil
Undo damper bolt at the bottom of the fork
Pull out slide part of fork, lever out old seal with a screw driver
Push in old seal, fill with oil and put it all back together, done |
