Best bike for the A2 restriction period

Hey,

Needing a good insurance friendly bike in the sports style that can handle the 33bhp kit.

Considering a 1996-2000 GSXR 600 costs £1200-1400 to buy, which is nice and in budget it costs around £1000 to insure.

So I've been looking at 400cc's, such as the 1991 honda VFR400 NC30, 1992-1994 kawasaki ZX400 which are both under the £1000 mark and about £300 to insure.


So pretty much I want a good bike, reliable, not to old, for around £1000-1400 max, with insurance up to £400 tops (fire and theft)

I live in essex, but I've got 2 years no claim bonus try tesco's motorbike insurance comparison, alot of cheapy insurance quotes for 400s I've found

Also would riding a VFR400/ ZXR be hard for someone 6"7?

I have a GSXR 600 restricted, feels pretty sweet. Ive heard you can pretty much restrict anything within reason, obviously wouldnt wanna go too old and heavy though imo.

I have a Sv 650S which is restricted goes really well and cheap as chips to insure.sounds nice as well

You could go for a 250cc bike which doesn't have to be (very) restricted. Then you'd have something you can rev a bit more?

There's the Kawasaki 250R Ninja which doesn't require restriction.

Or, if you can find a good one, you could look for a Suzuki RGV250.

Very very very happy with my restricted GPZ500s (though is maybe less sports that you are after?)

restrictor kits V cheap on eBay (sub £20 delivered and 20 mins to fit)

cheap insurance
Plenty of "go"
Plenty of "stop" (a revelation compared to a drum braked CG125)
Good MPG
Seem straight forward to maintain (so far)
Plenty of bits available cheaply on eBay
Can be had damned cheap for what they are (mine was £350)
More than happy with mine and cannot see me getting bored of it for a long time
(with the added bonus that in just under 2 years it will be a 20 minute job to remove the restrictors to gain a few more HP..not that I'm yet at the stage where I need nor want any more powah!)

I suppose it depends on what you want
My GPZ is certainly not bling or flashy, but has been totally reliable and makes me smile still and totally fits my criteria

I originaly was dead against having anything with fairings, but very quickly changed my mind when I took my completely unfaired bike (the CJ360) on the motorway for the first time


It feels sporty to me anyway
