Preparing for proper test!

Hi all,

Just a quick question, has anyone taken their Mod 1 and 2 without lessons, just using their knowledge taken from the CBT, shoulder checks etc and just practicing the manouvres on quiet roads?

Alternatively, has anyone done private lessons like you would in a car and does this work out cheaper / better/ more tailored to your needs?

Just wondering as I dont really have £600 for the intensive course and I dont really have the time for 4 days all day!

did my mod1 on an 850, just got my mate to ride it there for me. although did take 3 attempts it still worked out at only 50 quid for something a school would have charged me a couple of hundred, think i may just get a days lessons before the mod2 though

Mod 1's a piece of piss, definitely advise a couple of lessons for Mod 2 tho.

Only 2-3 to make sure your riding is test standard.

i never had lessons as such but after i passed my theory test i booked a 2hr lesson with a private instructor just to make sure i was ready to take my mod1/2. i didnt really learn anything much as i had been riding on "L" plates for over a year and practicing maneuvers in car parks etc but it really helped my confidence to hear from a profesional that i was ready to take the tests.

i passed mod 1/2 both on the 2nd attempt and im sure the lesson helped. i was on a very tight budget (hence doing the A2 on my CG) and its definitely worth spending the small amount of money for a lesson to improve your chances of passing.

I'm doing the tests on my own with no paid training.

I have three mates with bikes, two of which have passed (one on the old style test, and one on the new) so we're going to unused car parks and practising there.

Go out 2/3 times a week, practice for a few hours after work, grab a btie to eat and enjoy the local twisty roads. So far I'm feeling fairly confident, I'm just worried about whether my bike will get up to 30mph in time.

Without starting another thread on it can anyone tell me if you are required to filter through traffic on the mod 2? Would you be penalised for just staying in your lane behind a row of cars?

done my tests with no training up to now,passed mod1 after the second go

going to try mod2 again as i know what they are looking for now,if i fail i might get a lesson or 2 booked tho
