Hi I have my mot on tuesday and I cant get my indicators to work, I've checked all the bulbs and fuses and they are all ok, I've checked all the wiring without delving too far into the harness but they still dont work, I should say that they have not worked since I got the bike and it has been hot wired because the ignition was gone when I bought it, any ideas would be great cheers. Oh I should say it's a CBR-400-RR-J

Take them off and tape over the switch. If they arent there then they are needed for the mot.

You have tried a new relay/fuse?

Hi

Get a multimeter and check for power at the indicator switch.

With a bike that new, unless all the lights are taped up / removed for a daytime MOT then the indicators are compulsory.

All the best

I'm getting one monday, just thought there might be some other stupid reason I could check for in the mean time, I've never had all the indicators go at the same time

Hi

Likely to be a common wire. I assume there is a power feed to the indicator relay and from that to the switch. If all 4 have stopped working it suggests either the feed to the relay, the relay itself or the wire from the relay to the switchgear.

All the best

Keith

right, I got power to the relay, so I assume that means the relay is knackered

No, you need to check to continuity to earth through the switch and indicators now. Unplug the relay, you'll probably be left with one or two wires which are not the 12V feed. Measuring resistance, one will show permanently the resistance of the dash repeater bulb w.r.t. earth, and the other should either be open circuit with the indicator switch off or show the resistance of the indicators with it on.

If you don't have a meter, then bridge your 12V to either of the other two wires with a paper clip, you should get either the dash light or indicators lighting up (depending on where the switch is)

If there's only one extra wire, then there's no dedicated feed for the dash bulb. if there's more, be careful!

Before delving in too far, replace the fuse (despite it looking ok) and clean the contacts.

My indicators stopped working after I rewired the bike. I was a little pissed off, having spent a lot of time on. After checking every wire and connector against the wiring diagram and I wiggled the fuse, and they worked. Fuse wasn't blown, but a little corrosion between it and the holder was stopping it from working.

Hi

Sounds like the relay is dead then.

All the best

how many wires connected to the relay, and what position was the switch in? What happens when you move the switch?

three wires are attached to the relay if the switch is off nothing happens if I move the switch to either left or right the dashboard light comes on and so does the indicator

... good bet it's the flasher unit, then!

(assuming your battery is not knackered and is fully charged...)
