Bit of a daft question IMO, i'd spend as much as i can afford !!! when i bought the SV i had £1.5k, so i spent that, if i'd had £5k in the bank i'd have spent that... if i was lucky enough to be in a position where i could afford a £15k bike, then i'd probably buy one!

I think I'm unlikely to spend more than £2 grand on a bike for many, many years to come though. £2000 gets you an awful lot of second hand bike.

Apart from two bikes I bought brand new (about £3000 each) usually between £1000 and £1500. Current bike cost me £850 4 years ago. You can buy a lot of bike for under £2000, so never felt the need to spend more.

Totally depends on what I'm getting and how much I want it, and what I think the bike is worth. I don't usually buy new, and I am a keeper (which means I spend a fair bit of time thinking about what I will get before I get it). Plus I will haggle.

Well my Derbi cost me £2000 brand new and i've just replaced it with a far superior beast of a RXS which cost me £230, so it would seem I am going backwards.(or just getting tighter)

Up to £2,000 really at my age. When I'm older and can actually afford fully comp insurance I'm sure it will raise. I think my dad pays something like £60 for fully comp for a year! Cheaper than the tax on his bike.
