I have done a search for anyone that has been to Poland on a bike and I came up with virtually nothing.

Has anyone been to Poland before and if so, can you recommend places to go?

Our trip will start at Calais and head to Ypres for the 1st night, Munster, Germany 2nd night, Berlin 3rd night, then into Poland.
I want to visit Auschwitz and I would like to get down to southern Poland. We like good roads, scenery, lakes mountains and just generally interesting sights and towns.

The trip starts on Saturday Sept 4th and ferry back is on Sunday 19th at Calais.

We aim to camp every night, and although I want to see as much as possible we will stay a couple of nights if a place is really interesting or there are some good places to visit nearby.

I have been doing some research on Wikipedia and to be honest Poland looks that interesting I am finding it hard to work out the best places to visit.

Can anyone help please?

I went to northern Poland a couple of years ago. beautiful country, shit roads and mostly friendly people..with a few exceptions. Mad drunk truckers and crazy car drivers. you need all your wits about you..but well worth it. Cheap too,as they still have the Zloty.

The Tatras look pretty spectacular right down on the Slovak border, not been there but it's on the list, then you're down near Krakow so can look around there, Auschwitz/Birkenau is nearby if that's your bag.

I was also recommended the south east for scenery by a Polish guy. When we were there though it wasn't really the weather for looking at scenery.

The last website posted by Tiff ( ) is mine and Poland was definitely a very interesting country to visit. Mostly just for experiencing Polish culture. As said, driving etiquette (and associated risk) is very different over there but the people are mostly friendly.

Good stodgy food too - try to find a milk bar, theres one in Krakow. Cheap canteen food for the masses but really good.

edit: Tiff I just read your write up on DBF - fair play for camping in the autobahn services! Also it seems like you hardly ever sleep or eat! Cool trip.

I really want to visit Auschwitz. Wanted to go there for many years now - and Krakow too since it is quite close.

As a matter of fact, I was heading to Auschwitz when my bike broke down last week.


Here is a tip for you:

When in Poland, call it "Oświęcim" (pronounced something like "Osh-vee-em-tshim [say it as 1 word]". Apparently the Polish dont like calling it by the German name of Auschwitz.




If you are looking for any Polish phrases you might need when you are away; just give me a shout.

I got a good mate from Poland, he does not recommend biking in Poland, sh1T roads and crazy drivers.

Thanks guys, we have roughly planned 2 routes to Poland now, it just depends on which port we decide to sail to as to which route we will use.

We are planning 1 night at Hannover (B), 2 at Berlin (C), 1 at Poznzn (D), 2 at Warsaw (E), 2 at Krakow (F) 1 at Dresden (G), 1 at Koblenz (H), 2 at Brussels (I), 1 at Ypres (J). This will leave us with a spare night, do any of you think it is worth spending an extra night at any of our proposed destinations or should we add somewhere else into the route?

I'mm off again next Monday, in a car this time..(sorry, I know,I know... There are reasons) A £250 Merc that I bought last Sunday with no MOT. Done all the work this week,and MOT'd it yesterday. £13 tickets from Dover.. 2300 miles, no maps...how will it end?? I live for this stuff!! I love travelling on my own!!

Could have done with some carb bits but I think the 125 has a different carb. I've ordered all the bits I need now anyway, hopefully I'll get them before the mot on wednesday, but thanks for the offer.

When in Poland (Krakow) use train/buses for trips out some of there
Side roads are a bit **it and public transport is cheap

I was there in the end of May and all was well but try to stay on main roads fuel can be hard to find at times?

In Germany you could always visit the Nurburgring its good to watch if you don’t fancy riding round it and there is a great biker spot in a town 40km away in a town called Cochem with fantastic roads all round

Hi mate,

I`m a Polish so if you have any questions just ask, I will try to answer as best as i can.
Just be carefull on the roads because it is not as safe as in England. I lived in Poznan (west side of Poland) and can recommend it to you. It is a nice city, check the Old Market and Malta Lake - depend what do you like.

Hehe, Peja is quite good. Hi is form Poznan as well
I forgot to mention about silly speed limits every where (because of road condition) so you have to count more time to get from point A to point B than here in England. There is less motorways than here as well.
