Hi all, I'm new to moped's and need a little help.....

Everything on the bike works, and its almost ready for its MOT.
But its having a general issue with the engine/carb/fuelling.

It starts and tick's over fine, but when you try and rev it at a constant speed the rev's drop away and it almost cuts out, unless you release the accelerator and return it to tickover.

I've stripped the carb, cleaned it and replaced everything, but makes little difference.
I've tried relocating the carb needle, replaced the exhaust and the spark plug.

It starts perfectly everytime.

It will rev and pull normally when cold, but as soon as it warms up the problem returns.

Can anyone help?

Check for dirty fuel, blocked fuel lines and/or filter, blocked fuel tank breather. Also check that the 2t pump is working an is supplying the correct amount of oil to the engine, another possiblitly is that the choke is stuck on the ON position.

I have a whole bike for spares, I had a thought that it might be something to do with the choke, I have a spare one, which i'll try and swap over tmrw.

I've stripped, cleaned and refitted all the fuel system apart, except the choke.

Any other ideas?

I think your model has an automatic choke so it could be something electrical and not mechanical, cant say for sure as I havent worked on one of these for years, one major problem I do remember was that the lower part of the front suspension rotted away very badly and very quickly so would be worth a good look.

Could be carbon build up in the exhaust port. Those on the Melody are tiny, to restrict the bike to the legal top speed and they very easily get coked up, leading to motor running poorly, cutting out etc. Carb issues are also very common.
