 |
|
Hi All
A few months ago I purchased my first bike a Kawasaki KH125 from ebay without seeing it first (I know a silly thing to do ) but it had just passed an MOT so I assumed there couldn't be any major problems (silly me again).
The first problem was a rather large oil leak which was obviously not mentioned in the advert, I sorted that and thought everything was ok until the first time I went out on the bike and it broke down as I was leaving the petrol station I should have contacted the seller then but as it was an old bike I expected a few problems and didn't mind getting my hands dirty to sort them out.
I took the carb off and gave it a good clean and the bike started so I just put it down to dragging some crap out of the tank into the carb, I then took the bike for a spin and noticed the speedo wasn't working so parked it up again until I had time to sort that out which I did a couple of weeks ago.
Then I went to use the bike and it started aah a sigh of relief (but only for about 30 seconds) as it stopped and has refused to start since. I went to have a look at it today to try and get it stared again and noticed that the chain was bloody loose so thought I'd tighten it while I had the tools out only to find that one of the chain adjusters has sheared off.
I have finally contacted the seller as I should have done a couple of months ago, but I very much doubt I will hear back from him.
The problem is with my optimism and trying to sort things out myself and the fact I had to do my CBT etc before using the bike enough time hs now passed that the transaction has disappeared from "my ebay" so I can't leave negative feedback/start a dispute.
I'm guessing the bike shouldn't have passed an MOT with a speedo that didn't work and a missing/broken chain adjuster?
Rant over.

You've left it a couple of months, who's to say the faults/bodges haven't developed during your ownership?
Speedo isn't an MOT item, and if the chain wasn't flapping about like a whore's knicker elastic that wouldn't have been a problem for the MOT either. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

The speedo isn't an MOT item - but the chain adjuster is!
I don't know why you bothered contacting the seller two months down the line. I'd just get on with putting the bike straight. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I'm selling some wheels, including a decent set of tyres, that I no longer need. I've had one guy ask if I want to swap for the same set of wheels (except his aren't painted). This is even though I've declared on the advert that I no longer need them |

Wow, just noticed this post minutes after stopping myself from bidding on my first bike (a CG), which I also would not have seen in the flesh had I done so.
But after looking into the seller's transaction history, I noticed that he appeared to have bought a 2nd hand helmet, stuck some stickers on it, and is now selling it for (currently...auction still going) 30 quid more than he bought it for. I'm not sure if that's something to worry about, but it was enough to put me off.
He also had to buy a clutch lever just after he himself had bought it (according to the check I did online) so who knows. Anyway, probably just being paranoid, but I don't have the money to waste.
So thanks for this thread, it made me even more sure |

I'm with marki on this one.
All those problems are minor cheap things that are relatively easy to fix.
340 quid for an mot'd bike is pretty awesome imo. It's not as if you need a speedo anyway. |

So there are mugs out there that will bid on anything...... Not his fault people have bid more than he bought it for, or is a reflection on him.
I would guess plenty of people have bought and then resold at a profit.....
Its called making a living
As to bidding on a bike you have not seen. I hope you have asked plenty of questions.
OP.
MOT means nothing.
Oil leak. If it was that bad, you should have noticed when you picked the bike up.
So you did not notice the speedo, not working on the way to the garage then...
Seems you have had more problems AFTER you took it to bits..... Which you can hardly blame the seller for...
I have to wonder if it not running after filling up, was you forgot to turn the fuel tap on.... You would not be the 1st or the last to do that.....
Only noticed after taking the bike to bits... Opps have you forgot to connect the cable up, or knocked something out. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Well technically, no, of course there's nothing wrong with buying something and then selling it on for a profit, it was just the way it was done with that helmet that bothered me.
For all I know, the bike could have been in rubbish condition and he could have just slapped some stickers on that too. Hell, I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to bikes, but although I really wanted that one, there was reasonable doubt IMO. So I left it. |

The only reason people are disappointed with bikes they buy on ebay is their own expectation. If you realised (as most would) that a bike for £340 wouldn't be perfect, then you'd be happy. However, you expected a 15-20 year old two stroke motorcycle that you bought for significantly less than £500 to be perfect, and it isn't.
I suggest you deal with it. If you had paid £1000 or even £500 then if I were you I'd be a bit miffed. However, I would not contact the seller, and I wouldn't complain. Do you know why? Because you didn't look at the bike before you bought it.
The fact that you didn't even look at the bike means you wouldn't be able to complain even if it was a huge pile of rust. As it is you could make your money back by breaking it quite easily, and as such I'd man up, and sort the bike out myself.
