Hi guys!

Sorry I haven't been around for ages! My pc's been broken and had a virus thing! But a very kind person fixed it and so I'm back! Very Happy
Just a small question for you all....

When I used to sign into msn, you had to click sign in and then type your user name and password. But now, it already has my user name up there and when I click sign in, it automatically logs me on. Confused
I want to change it because there are other people who use my pc and I don't want them to have access to my msn etc.

Can anyone help please?

Hi Hannah,

You need to go into My Computer, Control Panel, User Accounts.

Click on the user account you use on the PC. Then click the "Manage my Network passwords" link. Select your passport email address, and the term ".NET Passport" from the list and click remove. Then OK everything you have open, all should be fixed.

Make sure you untick "Save my password on this computer" when you sign in next.

This assumes you are using Windows XP...

Craig

On MSN itself....

Tools
Options
General

Clear the box that says "Allow automatic sign in when connected to the Internet".

The box is clear, it never had a tick, but it still doesn't help.

Had this problem myself.. best way is to sign into another account.. and tick "Automatically Sign Me In" ... as it will auto sign into that account rather than yours.

Right mouse click on the icon in the systray (the wee bit beside the clock on the task bar) and choose Sign Out

Right click again and choose Sign In

Clear the check box that says Remember my name and password on this computer

Hoping this works

When you click the Sign me in automatically check box to sign in to MSN Messenger, your Microsoft .NET Passport name and password are stored on your computer. This allows MSN Messenger to sign you in automatically.

On Windows XP, you can delete this information so you are not signed in automatically, even if you selected the option to do so in Messenger. To do this:

1. On Windows, click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
2. Click the Icon for your current account.
3. Click Change my .NET password, This will allow you to set it to auto login another account or none at all.

This does not delete your Passport; it only removes your Passport name and password from this computer.
4. Click Close, and then click OK.

I did some screenshots for the method I posted above - as far as I know its the only way to do it without setting a different account to auto sign in. (or messing with the regestry)

An error in the post above, you wanted to delete the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry.

The image is kinda large so i shall link to it:

https://cjrobs.net/msn-clear.jpg

To recap:
1. My Computer -> Control Panel -> User Accounts
2. Select your user account from the avaliable options
3. Select "Manage Network Passwords"
4. Select "Passport.Net\* (Passport)" from the list. Press remove.
5. Press OK on all dialogues. Return to desktop.
6. MSN (and all other apps that use your passport) should now require you to enter a username/password to sign in.
