Because they're slow, handle badly, have crap brakes and are ridden by accountants trying to be Hells Angels.

I have to agree when I see a fully 'tassled-up' cruiser cruise past like a prop from a Villlage People video.

Having said that, I went for a fairly lengthy ride on the back of my young man's latest bike (a Road King) last weekend. It's nothing like my Jap bikes, there's the sitting position for a start ... the pillion seat's comfortable enough - like being on a sofa - only everything's all in the wrong place for me: saddle bag bars, foot plates, all not quite correctly placed for hellkattish dimensions. I like perching on a bike on my minge-bone, not on my tail-bone. And there's no bloody back rest.

Sooooo ... I may have to force him to make slight adjustments to accommodate me if he thinks he can have his evil way with me whilst riding THAT bike. Rolling Eyes

He sounded somewhat anguished that time he fucked up, rode it off the dge of the stage & crashed through the bottom of the orchestra pit some years back.
The mic hung on the back of the bike to pick up the exhaust noise did a creat job of also picking up his screaming while he laid there waiting to be rescued....

I always think of Easy Rider when I think of cruisers... I realy loved that film too Embarassed

Another question then. If you had either Fonda or Hopper's cruiser and you had some nice big American roads to ride on would they still be fags bikes?

They're custom choppers in Easy Rider, not Cruisers.

Generally speaking, both are pretty useless and very technologically outdated when it comes to motorcycles. The main problem being notoriously poor chassis design design and cheap suspension (Harleys in particular).

There are some exceptions and some cool cruisers though. I'd have one of these in a heartbeat:

Ahh didn't know that... Knew Harley's were cruisers, to me they look like choppers, so I sorta lump all choppers in as cruisers.

I can't quite figure out how you can lump this

in with this ...

or this

Can you tell which of the above bikes are Harleys?

No, legend has it that they were Harleys, bought second hand from the LAPD because Harley Davidson refused to give the filmmakers free bikes, as they didn't want their brand to be associated with "outlaw types" which the film portrayed.

I think you are thinking of The Wild One (Brando) in which he rides a Triumph.

Bet it's generally slow and it's handling is well off a decent sports bike (especially considering how much semi-ok handling cruisers tend to cost to make) - single front brake on a heavy bike and questionable looking tyres makes me very suspect.

Sure I don't use most of a bike's abilities most of the time, but I like to have the option there and certainly wouldn't pay lots of money for a bike that didn't have these.
