We seem to have a few food threads going, so here's another:
On a recent holiday in Cumbria, i was delighted to see gravy available on the menu in a chippy. Gravy is generally not available in chip shops outside of the north - i was once called a 'dirty bastard' for asking for chips and gravy in a Welsh chip shop.
Also on the menu was black pudding which i love, and Haggis (which i would never even consider touching).
I currently live near Aylesbury, in every kebab shop here coleslaw is served on kebabs. However, go a few miles down the road to Tring Leighton or Hemel, and coleslaw doesn't feature on kebabs. It seems to be unique to Aylesbury, as i've been in many kebab shops across the land and never encountered it before.
So, are there any takeaway delicacies unique to the area in which you live? ____________________ Space Monkey #7

Oooh, i just thought of another:
Scraps - basically all the shitty bits of crispy batter scraped up and sold in bags.
When we first moved daarn saarf, i wrote in a school diary that my brother and i always fought over who got the scraps.
My Suvvern teacher (who had obviously never heard of scraps) took this to mean that we had to fight each other for scraps of food at home, and contacted the social.

I love food threads like these. It might be sad but I find the regional differences in food rather fascinating
Where I live in North Lanarkshire our main specialties seem to be:
Chiken Tika (Spicy) Calzone: https://www.chillibiteonline.co.uk/pizzas-a-calzone.html
Which is essentially a naan bread version of a pizza calzone with a curry of your choice in it
Aslo the Scottish favourite "Pizza Crunch Supper":
https://pugwash.info/articles/pizza/deep-fried-pizza-3.jpg
Dont think you get those "dahn sarf"
Plus if you ask for a Supper, ie fish supper, haggis supper, black pudding supper. You will get x2 of the main (fish, haggis etc) and a large helping of chips.
Plus like the North of England you can usually get most toppings available, cheese, curry sauce, mushy peas, gravy and pakora sauce put onto anything you order.
One main difference regionally between Glasgow/West Central and Endinburgh/East Coast is the seasoning options offered to you at the point of sale.
In Glasgow and the West you will be asked if you require "Salt'n'Vinegar applied to your food, whereas in Edinburgh and the East you will be asked if you want "Salt'n'sauce". The sauce being brown chippy stuff. I find it very perplexing that they assume you need brown sauce applied. Sauce should be an extra at the customers discretion not an assumption
One I have tried after working with a guy from Middlesbrough was Parmo Chicken. I have to say it come highly recommended from me . I love the Smoggies
Mistergixer, I know you have a love of far eastern food and northern British cuisine. So I have a recommendation for you should you ever find yourself in Glasgow. I thought it was a taste sensation, it was a true fusion of Oriental meeting Scots.
The restaurant is called Dragon-i and the dish is Huk Guen and it is....wait for it.... Stornoway Balck Pudding in a pancake rolll!!!!! Oh my God it is fantastic I fucking love that place Quite posibly one of the wonders of the world. Combining a spring roll with Scotland's best Black Pudding, the chef deserves a medal ____________________ Current; 10' Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.

Whoa, Whoa, there! Wash your mouth out son.
I know it sounds "wrong" but it tastes so good You have that lovely sweet crispy batter crunching in your mouth, then the warm melted cheese oozes out onto your tongue, followed by the tangy tomato covered chewy base complementing that lovely golden salty batter coating. Then rinse it all down with a glass (it has to be glass none of that plastic crap, plus you get 30p back when you return your empty so that's at least a couple of fritter for free, anyway I digress) of sweet, sugary fizzy Irn_Bru goodness. The bubble gum flavours seem to mix so well the the coating of fat your mouth now has from the batter. mmmmmmm yummy
And we wonder why Glasgow is the heart attack capital of the world, we have lower life expectancy than bloody Gaza (the place not the "I've got a chicken for a gun nutter, footballer Gazza), so whre are our aid ships ____________________ Current; 10' Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.

Much as it sounds appealing, i never cross the border - it's like a whole different country up there; men in skirts, lots of woad, heroin etc etc. I do wonder about our colonies, sometimes i wonder if they've benefited from our civilising influence at all.....

I'm shocked and appalled and... shocked, that you have never ventured over Hadrians Wall. Ignore the Heroin that's just Edinburgh and it's crap anyway, full of Americans.
In Glasgow we have adopted Devon's famous drink "Buckfast" and supporters of a certain Glasgow football club like to wear English football shirts so you wouldnt feel left out. In fact I wouldn't approach the Scotsmen wearing England tops drinking Buckfast that's probably a bad idea
There is so much on offer up here culinary delights wise from all over Scotland such as:
Stornoway Black Pudding,
Arbroath Smokies,
Loch Fyne Oysters and muscles,
Cullen Skink (a smoked haddock fish soup),
Deepfried Mars Bars,
Deep fried Pizza,
Aberdeen Butterie's (also known as Rolls or rowies, these are way too sweet and greasy and even disgust me! Here is an ingredients list
250g butter
125g lard
1 tablespoon soft brown sugar
500g flour
2 teaspoons of dried yeast
450ml warm water
Pinch of salt
They make eating Deep Fried Mars Bars out of a chip shop like shopping in Holland & Barrets for a fucking Granola Bar! ____________________ Current; 10' Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.

For people that have never ventured up to the North East of Scotland here is what a Buttery looks like:
https://www.monkeycrumbs.co.uk/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/rowie.jpg
I cant comment on the Butteries but I will give Thains a try if I'm ever up that way again in the near future.
I will have to take issue with the claim of "Best Pie" everybody knows that the mighty "Killie" pie sold at Kilmarnock FC's ground, Rugby Park, is the best in Scotland if not the country (it's made by Brownings the Bakers)
I had my wedding reception in a function suit in the Ground and had Killie pies as part of the buffet. It was a mistake to brag about this before the occasion as people turned up with bloody Tupperware containers ready to snaffle them all away ____________________ Current; 10' Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.
