probation period after ban?

I am with a mate tonight and we have been discussing his ban. He passed his car license 12 years ago, then his bike licence 3 years ago. Last year he lost his license and has to take an extended driving test to get it back (after a years ban).
He will take the test again next month, but Will he be on the new drivers probationary period again for two years (meaning he can only get 6 points max) or not?

as far as i am aware it will be classed as gaining a full license rather than re gaining. so he will be subject to the 2 year 6 point rule

the good news is tho. the extended driving test only applies to 1 mode of transport. so if he does the extended test in the car, to gain his full bike license he will only have to do the standard test, not the extended

pax, im not 100% on that one bud, im goin by a guy that was on his DAS with me. he had lost his licence and had to do an extended which he failed. oddly enough he failed at the very end of the test.

but the training instructor said that if he done the extended in the car he would only have to do a standard on the bike.

im not sure if the guy had his full bike and car entitlement or if it was just one or the other he had.

Applies for 2 years from your first full licence.

Even those getting caught out by the new drivers act do not have a further 2 year probation after they retake their test (getting done under the new drivers act triggers early termination of the probationary period).

I read somewhere where if you had both bike and car entitlement, all you had to do was an enxtended test either on a bike or in a car and you wouyld get back your full entitlement.

I am not sure about the 6 points rule either. But they have already held a full licence so they are not a new driver/rider.

From reading these posts and my own knowledge I can quite safely say that he will be back onto a full licence, and will only needed to take one extended retest then he will get all his entitlements back.

He's not affected by the new driver's rule because he's not a new driver. All he has to do is take his extended test and then keep below 12 points.
