IP Camera suggestions - for outdoors + night use

Any recommendations for an IP camera that works ok at night and in the dark for security? Not too expensive.
There is a streetlight, so it doesn't need it's own lighting really, just to actually be good with low light - have tried a camera with it's own infrared LEDs, but it was useless, especially when compared to an ok camera with no extra lighting.

As cheap as I can get away with - definitely would hope for under £100 if possible (and the more under the better ), as prices do seem to have come down a bit.
In the long term I'd probably be happier to spend more, but not right now.

Ideal for catching out intoxicated people wandering around a new house (not that it's likely to happen now, it seems )... but probably not so great for getting an idea of who's been poking around when I've left the garage door open for five minutes .

Ah not sure how much help I can be. I currently work for a small CCTV firm (leaving in August) and we do sell on-line some IP cameras however as you probably know outdoor IP cameras aren't the cheapest.

Looking through our website I found this Panasonic BL-C140 for £164. I have used this camera at work and it does perform OK in low light but it would depend on the light levels on the area you wish to monitor.

I'm not trying to boost sales for our site as I don't really care about it. I'm only trying to help someone out, however if the link is a problem I will happily remove it.

Would it be possible for you to use an indoor camera near a very sheltered area or through a window?

There are some sheltered areas that I could use, or could probably make some vague waterproofing style stuff.

No worries about the link and cheers - when it's an established member and someone asking for help, it shouldn't be a problem .

There are loads of cheap chinese cameras, many under £50. I suspect some are actually good, but knowing which ones and which ones are useless is another matter.

We have tested some cheap Chinese cameras and some were good however I don't know how they would perform at night, nor can I remember any the make and models .

Have you tried looking at Maplin they sometimes have good cameras on there.

Are you wanting to view the camera at home over IP (i.e using an i.p camera as a cheap way to record a single camera) - or are you wanting to view the camera when away from home??

i only ask, as i bought a cheap 4 channel networkable DVR, and plugged normal IR CCTV Camera's into it - means i can log on to my camera's whilst at work and see what's going on or review what's been going on. you should be able to pick up a decent cheapy 2nd hand dvr for £100 mark i'd have thought, and i suspect it may be simpler / more reliable that an IP Based camera.

or - you could consider one of the "spy camera" style set ups, i.e looks like a regular external security light, but with a camera + sd card for recording built in, simply put the memory card into laptop to review it CLICKY

Viewing away from home would be nice, but I more wanted it for simplicity than functioanlity. With IP I don't need anything extra and very few wires (especially if I run wireless or POE).

Price seems very reasonable as they're being sold for 2 - 10x that if you search on google shopping.

Still need to dig out my 24v power supply (do have one around somewhere), so haven't tested it out yet.

Having PiR (or x10 using a camera) based lighting is a definite consideration in the long term, for convenience and better pictures.

I got a power over ethernet 'power injector' for not much.
Pretty pleased with the results.

See pic taken at night, just street lighting.
Better picture quality in the day of course.

Did a quick search on ebay and only one up there is £450 buy it now!
