Since getting the bike its always felt as of the acceleration was stuttering, having never ridden a triple not really sure what it was. Checked the chain a few times when mucking around and tightening the foot pegs and had found it to have a tight spot when cycling the wheels round?

Anyways, again went to lube the chain and adjust only to find this:

https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/2_751.jpg

No matter how tight I made the chain, the chain itself wouldn't actually sit flush with the rear sproket? I believe that the tight spots were related to where the chain was out of sync and then popping back into the sprocket grooves.

Even if the chain was slackened right off still the same!

No wonder why some changes down the box have been a little iffy and acceleration has been hampered.

Good job Thumbs Up .

How did you manage to break a chain roller?

I think it goes without saying that a new chain and sprockets are in order, maybe this time NOT an Iris. Get a DID instead Shocked .

My choice words when spotting it were a little more flavoursome.

I was hoping to chop this in as a deposit on a '10 GSXR next week so do I tempt fate and use it for the weekend commute or get the train...

...train may be the answer?!!!!

Its been a lemon since getting it and THIS is the final straw.

I thank you.

God knows, I always manage to have the strangest of things break or go wrong.

I don't think I'd even want to ride that to the dealer tbh.

You think you're going to get that past the dealer without them noticing?

It's totally fucked and very dangerous. New chain time.

im no professional but i'd say thats fucked!

i wouldnt want to ride that anywhere without getting a new chain and sprocket set.

i wouldnt even blag it at the dealers if your using it for trade in. they see it and they will knock shitloads off the trade in value. it would be better spendin the cost of a new chain to get twice the money back in trade in value

Hi

I have had a roller disappear once before, but even then it was only one, not both on the same link.

With the apparent damage to the link plates there is no way I would want to ride that bike like that.

Does the place you are buying the GSXR from deliver?

All the best

Keith

Another case of IRIS shite... Glad you spotted it before it had the chance to do damage to you and the bike! I had a well looked after one snap at the master link after only 8'000 miles of use and no signs of excessive wear/stretching. AVOID THIS MAKE IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE! Shocked

Even a simple Google search pulls up a lot of accounts of these chains failing, or just search for IRIS on here...

I'm glad I've managed to impress you all with my luck.

God knows how long its been like that for?

Its 200 yards down the road, well up a hill really.

They've got the 0% finance with min £500 deposit, so even though I'd take a massive hit in relation to the price I paid for this bike I can take it as it'd finally rid me of it.

I could splash £500 cash but I'd still have the bike.

Should I say at this point that one above this pair, the next in line, is also cracked?

Shocked .

I know you have mentioned problems with this bike, but what has gone wrong? Chucking it away for £500 seems a bit rash.

All the best

Not using your chain and sprockets as an improv pebble crusher by any chance are you?

To be fair though, you can't really blame the bike for a crappy chain. What other issues have you had with it?

GSXR-1000 K10 huh?

I could pretty much guarantee it'll get stolen if you use it to commute on and park it in public in Central London.

Nah, not the thou, the 600.

Paid the deposit and now just wait for finance checks and collection.

^Opted for the white rather than the 25th Blue or the Black.

Parking is in a hospital grounds and out of site (which could work for and against me?)

The T900 can sit in the garden and when get some free cash be repaired and then sold. I suppose it does make a little more sense than just lobbing it in, or, use it on the days when I dont want the GSXR to get wet.

if you buy a new bike, are you allowed to just pay for it, like with a brown envolope full of cash or a cheque.

or is everyone who buys new bikes just poor?

Savings has taken a massive hit with moving to Australia and back, buying a house and now treated the wife to a new car aswell (finance again was cheaper than the banks?) so 0% is quite handy really.

Finance and HP comes in handy at times I suppose.

PS

I am now skint!

i'm quite surprised you can just collect it, i'd have thought they'd be built to order.

They have so many on order per month or have them in stores as display models elsewhere.

Add ons and extras are possible.

Stock is more than enough for me at the moment.

You can, but it might not be appreciated. A guy I worked with bought an (almost new) car in the mid 1980s from a dealer and paid cash. He said the dealer paniced when he pulled out the cash.

When I bought the Bandit the dealer didn't want cash but would prefer a bankers draft and was prepared to pay me to cover the cost of the bankers draft. Cheaper for them to pay that than to pay the bank charges on banking cash.

All the best

Keith

Sems odd that the chain has failed so badly right next to the rivet-link. I wonder if there's a specific reason for that? Could be that the end link was deprived of the original lube perhaps?

Anyway - I did this in 16 miles - good quality chain too!

It is almost as if the chain has skipped and the roller has been pulled onto a sprocket tooth or something. Nonetheless, very impressive Thumbs Up .

If you look at the positioning of the teeth with regards to the chain, it seems to get worse going around the sprocket. I expect at some point the teeth have been hitting the roller. A tiny chip out of it will catch on the tip of the tooth from time to time making it worse and worse.

I've known people over tighten a chain rivet before crushing the roller into one position, when that happens ot will last about as long as a tire on a non rotating wheel Laughing
