I'm guessing that a pop-up tent ain't gonna work on a bike

We're going to have to get a smaller tent for bike camping. I was looking around yesterday and found that they now do pop up tents in three man size with a living room. The only, and it's not insignificant, issue is the fact that they fold up to a massive 80cm diameter disc, which no matter how I try, I can't picture working well en route....

I love the idea of not spending an hour faffing about as at present. I risk ridicule and disdain by asking if there is ANY way this would go on the bike?

So, on a more sensible note- what's the most stuff that can feasibly be carried on the bike? Everyone here is for minimalist- I don't care if I sound like a rubbish girl, but I am holding out to get the inflatable mattress and two tiny back supports on there.

But if it did work, it would be brilliant.

G carries pop up tents on the back of his bikes regularly, you just have to plan accordingly...

The alternative is one of those kyham tents which have folding poles, takes 60 seconds to put the tent up as it is like a massive manual umbrella.

They won't stand up to hurricane force winds though, but for the fact that at the end of a long riding day you can put it up just like that is worth a hell of a lot..... I mean crap in Siberia after a long riding day it was incredibly demoralising to put up my tent repeatedly and have it fall down... it's a 4 season mountain tent. But often there was nowhere to pitch it as the ground was compressed rock solid.

I do like the pop-upness, but a big part of it for me is that I could use the specific model shown which is a 'blackout' one that works particularly well. I've had mine in 40mph winds and it's done fine (I actually used two pegs to hold it down in this case, as it was quite windy).
In the end, a basic dome tent should take no more than 5 minutes to setup and is free standing bar the porch on those that have it.
However, when wild camping I do like being able to arrive late at night and just through it up without the faffing.

We use a Khyam Biker room enough for two plus gear and only takes a few mins. to put up with practise.

Go to Decathalon near Lakeside, they have pop up tents, but for the same reason as you, I didn't get, however they also do pretty small two man tents (and really small one man tents) packed into a small bag - cheap too. They have them set up so you can see what they look like set up (very easy to put up - takes 10mins tops). I found the assistants quite helpful. Defo worth a trip.

I got their two man tent, a sleeping bag, a sleeping mat and all my other stuff on the pillion seat of a GSXR1000 (with a small - rentec - rack on the back).

Thank you to everyone- I was expecting abuse for being ridiculous. Just back from hols, so shattered after 8 hours of M6, M40 and M25, all in our little van. Will take it all in properly later on, but really grateful to everyone, esp for the photos to prove to Dear Husband that it can be done.
