For those of you who missed it, get on Iplayer now. It was the best episode I have ever seen.

For those who did see it, discuss!

I was just about to make a topic aswell. One of the greatest Top Gear episodes for so many reasons. Only downside was who they chose to drive Sennas car. Think Barrichello would have been a better choice, Senna looked at him as his Protege. I sat in silence for the whole Senna bit, a really really good piece.

Amen to that.

My earliest memory is sat on my great grandfathers knee watching the tv of senna at monaco.

When I saw that Cruise and Diaz were on I assumed it'd be another excruciating fawning mess from Clarkson interspersed with the odd caravan blowing up. So that was a very pleasant surprise.

The Senna piece was superb, I can't remember watching a TG film even half as good for a very long time. Hopefully it'll get a good reaction and they'll do more proper motorsport stuff in the future. Clearly Clarkson is passionate about it, even if the other two aren't, and a bit of proper passion is always going to make for some decent telly. Hamilton came across really well too.

Anything Dakar related's always good and that Bugatti wasn't half bad either.

I guess there's life in the old dog yet.

Yeah that would have been good if they got Barichello in again, but still I absolutely loved it. I didnt realise until the end but i had also sat deadly still in complete silence for that whole part!
Definately the best top gear yet. they were serious and you could tell that makin that film actually meant something to them, they werent just dicking about as they do in lots of episodes (no offence to them at all, its fun, but it is just messing a lot of the time)
best episode of TG ever, thoroughly enjoyed it Thumbs Up

Shame the Veyron film couldn't have been done differently to the last time they did it. Carbon copy but without the *something* that it had the first time.

I'm sure it was more down to VW rather than TG, but it was total deja vu.

I wish they did something on 17 year old cars and definately bikes!

I can't be fucked with the races anymore. All the camera angles are already set up and filmed from multiple angles. So either they take 50+ cameras there, or the race is filmed in parts and adjusted to make it look close and fix the result. It's all predictable and stupid. I'm also 99% sure it's mostly not them actually driving the car, more likely one of their team of stunt drivers who occasionally dresses up as the stig.

The veyron was impressive, but also stupid. No one could ever buy one as probably only 1 was ever made and that will only be used to demo things and possibly 'sold' to a VW executive just so that it all counts. Cruise and Diaz were okay, both a bit too spoilt and Hollywood. The senna bit was quite well done i thought. One of the better episodes, but also one of the more fake feeling ones.

Totally agree, reckon the older shows were much better!
They seem to be under a lot of pressure and it's always just expensive cars! Thumbs Down

I think the star in a car is probably the most 'real' thing in it.

The circuit isn't exactly large so i'd guesstimate under 10 cameras with some remote controlled.

It's also a figure of 8 meaning it only needs 5-6 cameras to cover it.

'Yawn'.

Clarkson's very polished and predictable drooling.
An irrelevant car, missing information and why didn't they have the speed in mph for relevance to a UK audience?
I've now been educated that one of F1's 'Heros' was a bit of an arse who it seemed did well because he was willing to take fatal risks for himself, as well as putting others in danger - far from the idea of a 'Sportsman'.

I was genuinely interested to hear about Senna's car; from an iconic automotive era that will never be repeated. Yet little of interest was said, half of which was Hamilton being ambiguously pleased - if it was another program you could be sure it was genuine, can't even be sure of that here.

Oh and lastly, I'd have liked to see Clarkson be actually 'controversially' brave and ask Cruise about loony scientologisim.

Seemed a bit sporadic to me, like they had loads of 10 minute features going spare as fillers and just cobbled them together.

Not bad though, the bit about Senna was good, nice to see some of that footage again.
