Another "what bike?" thread

First things first, apologies for posting another "What bike?" thread.

Basically my circumstances have changed, the financial situation of mum and dad has changed so they will no longer be able to insure my bike when i buy it - the original agreement. So on that basis, instead of buying a £1000 NSR i need to make my £1200 stretch to 125 and insurance, preferably with a bit left over to tax and buy my friend's dad a crate of beer to look it over

I don't really mind what style of bike it is, my favourite style is streetfighter but the only 125cc bike of that kind of seen is the Cagiva Planet which is out of my price range. Aside from that im easy on the sports and supermoto styles. I'd take speed over good looks - definitely want to be able to do over the national speed limit if only by a few miles an hour.

Obviously the faster the bike the higher the insurance and then less i have to spend on the bike so im a bit stuck really.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Stick with a jap bike

I recommend a cg or a ybr style bike Easy to maintain and if looked after you will be able to sell it for as much as you paid for it.

Had feeling those two would crop up, I've got a lot of birthday money coming in December and I'm hoping to do my test around then so I suppose a few months of a cg wouldn't hurt

Just save your money and buy a bike after you have passed your test.

In winter you will get more cc for your cash

How much should I look to be spending? And what is too good to be true on a CG?

I'd say NSR125 - should do national speed limits a lot more comfortably than the 4 strokes and if maintained are perfectly reliable.

Anyway, go for an older one and I reckon you should be fine.

This model actually came naked from the factory (NSR125F) - I used to own one and they're decent bikes to my mind.

DT125 won't quite have the speed of the NSR, but should be able to find one of a similar age for similar money.

Good spot, I live in worcester - well just outside.

Thing is I know very little about bikes so wouldn't want a troublesome beast while I'm getting to grips with everything. Reckon a two-stroke that old will be okay?

Depends how well it's been looked after but generally the NSR is pretty reliable; and generally it's actually quite easy or cheap if you're paying someone for a rebuild too.

My CG had a load of problems too, though generally they can take more abuse (mine had been blatantly clocked repeatedly, for a start).

I got a cg for my first bike and regretted not getting a 2 stroke.

if your going to get a cg,get one over 1995 with cdi ignition,mines got points and is a right arse + not very reliable even though i treat it like a baby.

i'd get a nsr and then you can use that to take up your restriction period on your test
