Europe Trip Planning

I'm arranging a trip to europe leaving on the 10th September and returning around about the 26th September.

Apart from the nurburgring there's no set destinations so I've done a route destination map on google, the routes are just what google has added and not necessarily what we'd chose to take.

I originally had this route including Spain but Phoenix made a good point of time limits, I thought I'd worked it out and was okay but realised it was going to be too much so I've now cut out Portugal and southern Spain/Cadiz etc... I think now its down to a more manageable limit... I've worked it out to requiring about 3 hours riding a day at a bare minimum to make the target, obviously we'd be getting a lot more than 3 hours a day but would also be taking scenic routes and stopping regularily at places.

Anyone done a similar trip and any experience on realistic route planning?

Here's the proposed destination route... as I say the in-between places route aren't finalised and probably will be a case of setting GPS to "funnest route from point a to b" or just heading in that general direction Laughing

It's all to do with what you are looking for ... I've done a few trip's ... The usual thing is plan a target the night before ... Then hit the road with an idea of when you are going to stop riding for the day ... When that time come's you'll usually say the weather is good let ride for another hour ... If you stay off of the toll road you can fly camp in France ... Spain is not so bad ... Look for a shut down petrol station and camp round the back ...

There are two of use off the first week in September and back two week's later ... But we are making our way down to northern Italy ... And then working our way south and east ... Want to have a few day's in Spit ... Then ride back ... If you are interested give me a shout ...

Dunno - far too many motorways for me in that one, but saying that just rode 3000KM's in 12 days without too many long days in the saddle... okay maybe one or two.

I'm off to south of france/alps/switz/italy from the 13th of Sept, not got a plan, i just know i'd like to go these places.

Know someone just outside Geneva i'm meeting, but day too day give me a shout if you wanna ride the alps one day? Thumbs Up

In Northern Spain, you want to go East to West on the N260. Thumbs Up

I really should finish my report from last year.
I did Holland > Germany > Switzerland > Italy > France > Spain.

I often did motorway miles at night, which seemed to work well for me.

Where stuff looked more fun, I'd just stick in 'shortest' route on the GPS and see what came. Only bit I planned was the St Bernard pass (very good), though all the backroads to get there from Bern were pretty good too.
