Evening folks, I have decided i am going to sell my thundercat and upgrade to a r6. I have shopped around and can afford the early models..

I have my eye on a 2001 model in white and red at the moment, and think its the one for me. I would love to hear from people who own the models from around that year. 99 - 02? Whats to look out for when buying etc. Trying to walk into a sale with a good amount of knowledge about them. Hope you can help Very Happy

Cheers,

Dave

The problem with old R6s is finding one that hasn't been thrashed and crashed to death.

thanks for the advice folks Smile The 2nd gear issue appears to be common on quite a few other yamaha models, so something to look out for! Yea i dont want to buy a bike that has been driven to death, hopefully taking my mechnic mate with me to view the possible bikes, so fingers crossed they tick the boxes.

Was looking for £1550 mate, put the advert up on 1 site and already have provisionally sold it! if that changes i will drop you a pm Smile

here she is,

Get one. If you get a good one and you won't look back .

Love mine.
Is a 2001 plate in blue.
Put about 1500miles on it since beginning of june and loved each mile.
Chicken strips well and truly gone now is a total machine on the twisties.

Can't say mechanics wise much.

It will put a smile on your face Smile

2nd gear only goes if your a twat changing from 1st to 2nd.
Mainly caused by people utterly shit at wheelies who power it up in 1st then crunch it into second.

Abuse 2nd gear all you like once your in it, but make sure you change from 1st up to 2nd carefully.

Im on 25k, done 7k since owning it (yeah ive had it a year and a half but its been off the road since the crash so shh)

previous owner abused the shit out of it before me, but did so in the same manner i do (ie: clutched in 2nd instead of wanky power wheelies).

Thats about it.

Heres mine

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs178.snc4/38255_10150238778375142_691640141_13975847_6919184_n.jpg

Its so easy to get parts for these bikes and loads of mods available.
im looking at doing the following
dynojet jet kit
air filter
double bubble dark tint screen
single seat cowl and remove rear pegs
and replace the under tray with either the 2002 version or something a little different
