Has anyone used (or still use) them?

I've just got one on the advice of a friend, I'm getting bored at the gym, and have decided to do more with regards to road running (or running round my local park for an hour or so) and doing some weights at home.

I've managed to get a copy of a guys kettlebell workout called 'Pavel Tsatsouline - Enter the Kettlebell' He's apparantly the founder of the whole kettlebell movement (not sure how true that is?!). Started off with a 12kg kettlebell and using some of the exercises from this video here (although i'm repeating the video for 30mins)..

So far I'm dying after every 30 minute session, and its taking a day or so to recover to a point where I'm good to do it again (so I know it's working).

Just wondered if anyone else had used them, and could offer any advice or exercises I may benifit from.

Cheers,

Robert. Thumbs Up

IMO they are a bit of a gimmick; there are useful movements involving them however I wouldn't waste any money on buying a set.

I've been using them a few years, i use the competition style kettlebells as your form always stays the same.

I've got a 16kg, 24kg & 28kg.

They give a wide variety of exercises, the big plus is that they're cardio and weight resistance in one.

Personally i love the freestyle flipping side of it and is much less monotonous than the gym.
I was introduced to them by my kickboxing instructor as they're ballistic nature gives the ability to be exlposive with your movements.

Some videos i like.

nice, thanks will check those out.

I found that I was doing the same thing at the gym, the same routine and the same weights and was getting un-motivated to actually go. I have a friend who uses kettlebells so will get him to show me some of the exercises he does with it.

I've cancelled my gym membership anyway.. was only £17 a month so not missing out on anything...

Get some sandbags to supplement them. I love exercising like this, a few sandbags, a sledgehammer and an old tyre will see you sorted in no time.

I use the kettlebells 2 or 3 times a week for about 30-60 minutes a workout, my diet isn't great and i've only just started doing them again a few weeks ago after a few months of piling on fat.

This in mind i went to the gym yesterday on a free pass with my brother and matched his lifting without too much effort, since he trains a lot there i think thats not too bad, once i really get back into it i'll be back on form, i find kettlebell shifts the weight and builds strength like nothing else in just a short space of time.

Oh and if you want a bicep workout but a towel through the bell handle, great for grip training too.

If you're into kettlebells this guys youtube page is worth the view.
