So... I was in a band when I was at university. We were called Dogmonger and we were bloody awful.

Now I'm in my thirties any dreams of a rock'n'roll career are long gone but I still play my guitars for my own amusement.

Do you play, what do you play, how well do you play, are you in a band, have you ever had a top-10 single etc etc...?

I have an Epiphone Les Paul and a Martin D15 (which I think is one of the most beautiful guitars ever crafted) which will sadly never be played as well as it deserves to be.

Bass,electric & acoustic. Squier VMJ bass, PRSE SE ONE electric through a Boss me-50 effects unit and an ovation acoustic, all through a laney 300watt bass rig. Havn't been in a band for a good 4 years now and its something I really miss. Keep meaning to get a pub covers band together but what with drummers being extinct n'all nothing tends to come of it That will have to be a no on the top 10 single front
Started bulding my own guitars a while back but I cant solder for shit so none of them ever worked lol. Took them all five of the bloody things up the tip at the weekend in pieces, some taxi driver looked at me and asked if Pete Townshend had been round

Never made it famous. Never been even close. Never made any money, but I have had - and continue to have - a hell of a lot of fun. Isn't that what its all about?

Played numerous gigs. Played a few in Belgium and Holland too - much better than the UK.

Can't stand 'tribute' bands - they are killing live music if you want my opinion. There are a few good ones, but the majority are tripe and cashing in on peoples lack of interest in music they don't already know - ie new original bands.

I've been in a couple of bands (guitar and vocals) - never made it close to being big, but we did make a bit of money and played a few gigs in europe.

These days i dont have much time to pick the guitar up, let alone be in a band, although i would love to join another one.

thats a limited edition number 4 out of 24 ever made in that colour and it sounds great, i have a friend who owns a les paul and mine sounds every bit as sweet plugged into my cube amp

saddly it stays in its box because i cant do it justice but every now and then she comes out to play

Mess around with guitar and drums, generally with rock and metal, though lately I've been learning Beethovens Moonlight Sonata in A minor on ye olde acoustic for shits and gigs.

Never been in a band, jammed in the studio quite a few times with friends but thats about it. I can play covers of a lot of stuff but I lack creativity/knowledge of music theory so there are few things I've composed myself that sound decent. To be honest I could do with a complete overhaul with the guitar, trouble is I find if I try to go back to the very beginning, there's always a grey area, such that I'm plowing through most beginners stuff like "Yeah yeah, F major chord blah blah", then out of nowhere, it seems to jump into advanced shit that I can't comprehend, and I'm like "Hey, where's the intermediate section fucknuts?!?".

Funnily I kinda got asked to join a band last Friday. Was a guy from works leaving do, he's been playing in a band for a few years, and his bandmates, apart from the drummer, were also out with us, and has a gig on for this friday coming, he said that their drummer wasn't aware that it'd be his last gig since they were gonna kick him out for a variety of reasons. Some other people I work with mentioned that I play the drums, so they say why dont you audition. I said I have a bash but not really good enough to join a band, but then they say that their current drummer keeps it simple, so I should give it a shot. As the night progressed (and we got more drunk) it was pretty much confirmed that I would be their new drummer, and I'm supposed to go to their gig this friday to get a feel for their sound. Whether I will or not I dunno, s'all drunk talk at the end of the day.

Errr, yeah, so thats that then.

Gigged regularly from 17 to about 25, after which I was on the road too much with work. 3 years ago, a chance meeting with a mate I used to gig with on here (WavyGravy) got me playing again, and I now sod about in a studio once a week. We've been toying with the idea of starting up another band, but none of us really want to be arsed with it - the keyboard player is a funk head, the singer likes folk and I prefer 70's rock/80's synth

I play bass, lead, keyboard and sing, and have been known to too a mean kazoo. At home I've a Westone Quantum, Yamaha Pacifica 112, Ibanez classical, Yamaha acoustic and a Takamine 12 string, with a Korg K61 fronting up a pile of VSTi synths and a Yamaha DD55 for pad whacking fun.

About time we had another musicians thread on here!

Bass is my main instrument but I can play guitar and drums ok and I'm currently trying to teach myself a bit of piano. I've played in loads of bands but living in North Wales means you have to really fight to get the city gigs and you're just holding yourself back if you want to make a proper go of it. I'm moving to Manchester in September for uni so I'll definitely be looking to get some stuff on the go.

The black Les Paul copy and the broken 5 string bass have been sold but I still have the rest. (Strat copy is for sale too!)

I have a 400watt Warwick bass amp and some home made 4x10 and 1x15 cabs as well, (1x15 is for sale... 800watt @ 8ohms) but I only ever use the 4x10 these days as I just don't need to be moving that much air!

I've played gigs all over Wales and most of England in some pretty good venues (Manchester Academy, Liverpool Barfly, Hope and Anchor in London) and have been played on local and national radio but nothing has ever come of it. I've spent more money than I've made on music but as amnesia says it's all about having fun!

Can play piano (passed grades) but haven't played for about 5 years now (time and lack of space for instument). Love playing Queen / Oasis / Beatles and most ballads etc. However my brother does band management, earns a living but yet to make millions. Upside is he knows most people in the UK music business so tickets to gigs / festivals and the odd guest list can be obtained, which is nice

I've been playing guitar for about 17/18 years now, starting when I was 13.

I started off learning G 'n' R, Nirvana, Metallica, Pantera covers and from there I got more into thrash and death metal.

At 19 I joined a band back at home in Ipswich called Failed Humanity https://www.myspace.com/failedhumanityrip
Things moved pretty quickly in that band and about 6 months later we got signed to Candlelight Records on the strength of a rehearsal recording. From there we wrote and recorded our 1st (and only!) album 'The sound of razors through flesh'

After the release we played live, supporting Behemoth in London before I had the opportunity to try out for a London based band called Gorerotted https://www.myspace.com/gorerottedofficial

I travelled to London to audition for Gorerotted and subsequently was offered the 'job'

I decided that I didn't want to split myself 50/50 between the two bands as I felt I'd only be putting in half the energy so decided to call it a day with Failed Humanity. They split up not long afterwards!

So I was in Gorerotted between 2001-2007. In that time we wrote and recorded the album 'Only Tools and Corpses' which we funded ourselves with money from tours/merch and sales of the 1st Gorerotted album.

When this album was finally recorded and mastered etc we felt that we had a strong product to take to labels in order to try and secure a deal.

To cut a long story short we were eventually offered a deal on Metal Blade. To be honest, we couldn't have expected that in our wildest dreams so we accepted and signed a 3 album deal with them.

Only Tools and Corpses was released and we toured Europe fairly extensively after that.

In 2004 we flew out to Munich to Axis studios to record our 2nd album on Metal Blade 'A new dawn for the dead'

We had decided to go to Germany as our live sound engineer at the time had offered to do the album for us. This turned out to be a mistake with hindsight and it was not a fun time for me personally, or for the rest of the band I'm sure.

It was a stressfull time and unfortunately, for me, I think that translates to the finished product. I loved the songs, but the production doesn't do anything for me. Unfortunately because we were on borrowed time (as we had to get a different engineer in to finish up and fix what was broken) I can't help but feel it all sounds a little rushed.

There was more extensive touring of that album, the highlight for me was the month long Euro tour with Decapitated in 2005. Anyone who knows of Decapitated will know that drummer Vitek died in a bus accident on tour a couple of years back so I feel very VERY lucky to have had the opportunity to have met him and shared some time, although a lot of this is irellevant to this thread.

Anyway in 2007 after our first (and last) show in the USA I decided that I had come to the end of the road on my Gorerotted journey and decided to call it a day as I had literally nothing left to give the band anymore and I felt there was nothing left to acheive with them

I then joined a progressive death metal band in Norwich called Agonyst. https://wwwmyspace.com/theagonyst This was exactly the challenge I needed to progress as a player. I'd never even tried to play anything like this before and was excited about the prospect of doing something new and learning a new style of playing.

Anyways as I'm now rambling on I'll try bring this to a close before you all end up in coma's.

Due to personal reasons this year I decided to give up on music performance etc and just play guitar for me, when I feel like it. I'm not saying I'd never want to be in a band again but I've commited a large chunk of the last 10 years of my life to music and I need to take some time for me and work out exactly what it is that I want to do.

The only thing I am sure of is that if I do join another band, I don't want to be doing death metal again. I think I've flogged that horse to death (no pun intended)

*CBA repeating what i've said in other threads, but my last audition was as a drummer for a group called Turtle #3 (or similar) Whilst unloading i could hear them asking 'Where is he?' Turns out they thought i was the Dad, not the drummer. Needless to say i didn't get the gig.

Started playing when I was 11 or 12. Can't remember which tbh but it was around then

Currently play guitar, bass and synth.

Played bass in a few bands up until recently and likewise guitar,

Supported quite a few biggish bands around here, and the band I was playing with briefly last year had supported The Hoosiers before I started playing with them, and had been offered a place with Polydor records.
