Please help me write a suitable answer to this question

"Tell us about why you have decided to apply for an apprenticeship opportunity with BT"

It needs to be 125-200 words long.

Some might call this cheating, I call it using initiative

How can I make this sound better, still doesn't sound right to me.

Have to agree with the badger here, that first paragraph sounds like 'I'm not really Interested in engineering but I tried something else and didn like it so might as well give it a pop'. As ariel said, you wanna be so far up their arse they can taste brylcream, but do it in a controlled manner that doesn't make you sound desperate.

I think it's not really indecisiveness thats coming through, more that I know it's not what I want to do!

I would much rather be looking at going into secondary school teaching but I don't have the qualifications to go to university for another year or two (when I can try as a mature student) this is just another, unfortunately more likely to actually happen, option.

If you ever need to give the kids at the school a lesson in why they shouldn't muck around in lessons, feel free to use me as an example!

Anyway, I'll have a go at re-writing it with more arse licking

Edit: if that comes across in a "pity me" way its not meant to!

IMO thats still bollocks, it doesn't say why you want to work for BT. You have to bear in mind this gets read by some HR numpty first, but then one of the actual guys doing the interview has to read it as well, so it can't be too full of shit.

And paraphrase that back at them. Use the word career rather than job, and emphasise that you see great opportunity in working for a world leading company like BT.

Presumably this is a fitting/cabling type of Job, so something like:

"I want to work for BT because I fully understand that I will be cheap labour to them whilst serving my apprenticeship, and expect to be laid off once training is complete to allow a new influx of cheap labour. However at that point I will have the required skills to join the thousands of previously laid off engineers scrambling for the few telecommunication jobs paying out decent money. If I am extremely lucky I may get a longer run at the position as BT relocate their outsourced call centres back to the UK with their tails between their legs due to the overwhelming evidence that customers in this country do not like dealing with Indian call centres and are leaving in their thousands weekly. In addition I may be in a position to help BT continue to lag behind their competitors in the broadband market by continuing to offer lowere speeds than those aforementioned competitors even though everything is done through BT exchanges.
