Hi all,

I had a Derbi Cross City bike DK10EFE and rode from home to my mates house, who lives in Wrexham, stayed the night at his place and when I woke up next morning my bike was missing.

Called the police and went through the normal motions, and then contacted my insurance and again went through the motions, however I'm not so sure they will pay me out because one of their criteria was that I use a chain lock on it at all times. So I'm not sure how things are going to pan out.

I just had a bad experience with this bike from the beginning to end.

Cheers

I hope the Police recover it for you.

Bah. I grew up in and around Wrexham - the place was full of pikey scrotes who'd nick anything.

I'm amazed that insurers don't have a "you're not allowed to take the bike to Wrexham" clause in their policies.

Up to you to decide whether you tell the insurers there wasn't a chain on it. Of course, not to would be fraud.

Hi Gearboxkart,

I was gonna say it was chained but then during the conversation, she told me the call was being monitored and recorded for fraudulent reasons, so I lost my bottle and just told them the truth that only the steering lock was on. It's early days, the insurance company have asked me to send in the keys/copy of cbt/registration documents etc, so there is hope that they may pay out, if not I shall have to put it down to a bad experience.

The thing is, I have just today bought a new bike(Suzuki gn125) and taken out new insurance with bikesure, I told bikesure of my experiences and they said I do not need a d-lock or chain for my bike, if it gets pinched, just claim, no quibble. The only policies that require lock and chain is if the bike cost or value is in the region of £5000 or more.

Also, I must also say the Police have been very good to me although there is little they can do.

Cheers

Haha to be honest I would have said that as well and hid my lock because there is no proof :p

Sorry to hear about your bike but you should always lock it up dude, even if your just nipping into the shops or something. If c*nts will rob and beat up elderley people i'm sure they won't lose any sleep robbing your bike.

Mmm, when on the insurance and you say your security devices does that mean you have to have them on? As in fairness I don't chug around my thick heavy chain around with me anymore, but I use the disc lock instead - just wondering incase same thing happens to me

Hi Eump,

I actually live in town called buckley,it's about 10 miles from Chester or Wrexham. The crime density around where Ilive is very low, however Wrexam is terriably high for crime. Tomorrow, I'll prbably ride out to Wrexham to visit my mate, in which case I will be taking my lock and chain just in case.

Cheers

Buckley eh. I lived there when I was very young. Used to go to the Tivoli in the mid 90s when it had a rock night on a Saturday.

Getting back on topic - enjoy the new bike. Proper classic looking machine. Tidy!

Hi, sorry for the delay, it increased about £25, total I+FT=£180 with bikesure. I'm well pleased with my new bike and payout.

Cheers
