it astounds me as well - I've had a scooter raincover stolen off my bike as well in broad daylight in the middle of Golden Square in the nice part of Soho - the area is full of tourists, often has police trainees conducting training, and CCTV.

It bucketed down that day and someone must have thought "screw this - just steal someone else's cover so I can keep dry".

I mean c'mon - how low can some people get. Especially when you expect a little bit of respect between riders (cos I'm sure it was stolen by a fellow rider).

Yeah someone done that to me once, outside me house, nicked it off the GPZ, didn't nick the bike, just the cover. I was a bit nervous for a while that they were gonna come back for the GPZ - I don't even wanna say the next bit, in case it tempts fate, LOL ...

Someone nicked mine a week ago and i was paranoid for the next week about them coming back for the bike.

So ive got a new one which locks to the bike. Dont know why they wanted it, was old, small and covered in oil, and definitely wasn't waterproof any more.

Just irritating more than anything!

I suppose it is just as likely to be someone running off with the cover, just to be a pain in the ass.

I know someone who used to have an old Mustang, and he used to keep it covered. People constantly used to run off with the cover as he used to keep it down with bricks.

I know if I had a stang, I wouldn't leave bricks near it. Talk about tempting fate.

Like others suggested though, I'd definitely chain it up. Especially given the fact you have an ample amount of places to chain it to.

I wish they could invent small GPS trackers the size of small stickers. You can then hide them all over your stuff and if someone nicks something - track them down and whoop their ass. (or report them to police if they turn out to be bigger than you).

Unfortunately though reporting to the police nowadays is about as useful as telling people not to nick your stuff - ie fvck-all use.

A shop near me sells blackspur bike covers for £1.50. About as good as a heavy carrier bag but no loss if it goes missing.
