When you actually clean up, and set everything out in piles so you know what's for what and what goes where?
Got all my military stuff together today, and noticed although i'm still missing a couple things, i've got some old stuff i had completely forgotten about...
https://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt325/duncdmc/Photo0279.jpg?t=1280493064
So i have a full set of RAF blues, old set of DPMs from the early 90's, a big dirty bergen that desperately needs cleaned, an old serbian helmet from bosnia '98 covered in dents and stuff, a NATO SFOR cap, an old US Army shirt (swapped for a British CS95 shirt in Nijmegen when taking part in the vierdaagse), a full set of Combat Soldier 95's and RAF beret, plus a Para beret (there's a pic of this one somewhere, back in the 90's during the war in bosnia/croatia etc, where the para wearing it is guarding a load of prisoners).
Also have a random webbing pouch - i have no idea where it came from but it's bloody old and it's french.
and i have no idea what i'm gonna do with it all.
Might give the CS95's to my mate in the RAF regiment, because i'm kind.
Anyone else had a nice surprise like this or am i a fucking wierdo?

I didn't know you were in the Army?
I used to be in the army too, I had to leave though because I lost my 'see u jimmy' hat and faux fur sporran during a fight with a leopard.
No, really!

I'm not in the army
Wanted to join the RAF but because of this shitty pelvis problem i have that ain't gonna happen.
Grew up round it all though, my dad was away over in bosnia with SFOR for most of my childhood so whenever i saw him he'd bring me back operational maps and shizz
Your story kinda sounds like my brother's excuse actually, he joined the army, then had a fight with a train and lost, unfortunately suffering a bruise on his ankle and had to leave on medical grounds.
P.S. Thanks
They ain't 360 games... well, about 5 or 6 of them are, but the rest are original xbox games i'm trying to get rid of. |

I have to be honest, I hate to mislead people but I wasn't in the army either.
I used to have a pair of DPM troo's, they had a really annoying flaw in the fly area, it would just succumb to gravity of its own accord. The only way you'd realise it was down was if people pointed and laughed or if there was a draft.
I used to enjoy trawling around old army stores, there doesn't seem to be any around these days though.

Ahh, there's the leith army navy story halfway down leith walk.
I used to get extra camcream and the like, knives and also got some old ration packs for camping
Good wee place, cheap enough too.
I never had that problem to be honest, but then again i was crawling around the ground most of the time i was wearing them.
Although i do have a funny as anything picture of me getting a marksman award from my CO for beating my RCO in a shooting competition. I look like a right gimp. it's not getting shown to anyone though.

I assume you were in the Cadets what with the crawling around etc.
I was in Scouts myself, as in a member, not actually in them... Ummm...
We also did a fair bit of crawling around, after having drunk to much smirnoff Ice.
LAS is ok, its certainly cheaper than Tiso's which I think is over-filled with gucci hill walkers and posing outdoor wank types. I was in the LAS shoe shop next door buying some walking boots (which turned out to be total shite by the way.)
The woman behind the counter was enormously fat and said of the boots I chose (but shouldn't have) that they were really good comfy boots. How the hell would she know, she'd clearly not been hill walking for a considerable period of time.

Was in the ATC
Haha, i actually lol'd at your comment there.
I got my issue parade boots and they were uncomfortable as hell so i went in and bought myself a pair of magnums. best boots i have ever worn.
Great for walking in as well, me and a friend while training for de vierdaagse decided it would be fun to run up the side of arthurs seat in full gear with 30k in our bergens.
How fun.
I have walking shoes but they suck. i prefer some good ankle support.
Maybe she had been sort of hillwalking...
like... going over speedbumps in them or something. |

Ha, I was in the ATC too (498df Carluke, then became 449 Lanark) until I was about 16 I think.
Dont know what happened to all my stuff though, I'm sure my old log book is somewhere. Dit my BGT at the gliding school at Kirknewton.
The summer camps at Buchan and Boulmer was just a week on the piss with some marching through some heather and shagging.
Best thing we ever did was build a fucking hovercraft the size of Arran and then proceed to smash it into a set of rugby posts at Tulliallan infront of the Wing Commander
Always intended to join the forces, got as far as an interview for a weapons engineer in the Navy, then changed my mind and took up an apprenticeship on civvy street. ____________________ Current; 10' Aprilia Dorsoduro 750.

Hi
Another ex ATC bod here (although we certainly didn't get issued any boots or shoes, had to buy them yourself). 1105 Winchester and 825 Bangor.
Managed to avoid the hill walking, but a fair amount of .22 and .303 shooting, along with SLRs once. And flights in Chipmunks and then Bulldogs (in NI). Also got odd flights in other things (Hercules, VC10 and a Canberra).
All the best

I never got issued boots or shoes either, i bought them myself, but the parade boots were horrible.
Looking through my log, i did a few flights in tutors, a piper cub, a bulldog and a RANS S6...
Lucky you getting flights in bigger ones though!
The shooting was good, We used the Lee enflield no.8s (.22s) for normal target practice and training, then moved to the L98s for marksman work, and then to L85A2s (SA80) for the older people.
The outdoors stuff was always the best though, me and another guy walked round the whole of edinburgh in east lothian walking about 30 miles a day each time, in full kit and bergens.
The banter was amazing in it, think i'd like to have joined the forces.
I was in 297 musselburgh Sqn.

Hi
VC10 had rearward facing seats which is quite amusing (or sickening for those prone to air sickness). The Hercules rear doors being open in flight gave an interesting view.
Used a couple of different .22s. Some had been converted from .303s and they were a pain as you couldn't just drop the cartridge in place and push the bolt forward but had to put the cartridge into the breech directly. The .303s were fun but after 60+ rounds you were getting sore (especially those who put their berret under their jumper and put the badge in the wrong place ). Only got the SLRs once (20 round magazine) and the SA80 and its derivatives weren't in common use back then.
All the best

Nice to see ex ATC folk. 282, East Ham for me! Enjoyed the .22 shooting the most, and drill, for some reason. I also gained a lot of navigational and engineering knowledge through it which I found really interesting. Hope my kids will want to do something like this when they get into their teens. ____________________ CBT February 2008 | A2 June 2008 | Yamaha YBR125 (written off) | Honda CBF125 (current) |
